Transportation Planning Intern Networking Event with AECOM Atlanta, GA

AECOM is hosting an exclusive invitation-only hiring event in Atlanta GA on February 11-12 2026. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026.

The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects career paths and the company itself. Youll also have the chance to meet other students recent graduates and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.

On Thursday interviews will take place at our Atlanta GA office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.

AECOMs Atlanta office is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern to support planning and public engagement efforts for transit rail roadway and multimodal transportation projects. This position provides hands-on experience working alongside senior planners engineers and project managers on projects for local state and federal clients.

The internship is ideal for students interested in transportation planning public policy urban planning or related fields who want exposure to professional consulting federal and state transportation programs and community-focused planning.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: 

• Support transportation planning studies including transit multimodal corridor and long-range planning efforts.
• Assist with data collection analysis and visualization (e.g. demographic data travel patterns GIS mapping).
• Help prepare technical memoranda reports presentations and graphics.
• Support public engagement activities including developing meeting materials surveys and outreach content and attending public meetings in communities across Georgia.
• Assist with grant-related research and documentation (e.g. FTA FHWA FRA programs).
• Participate in project team meetings and coordination activities.
• Participate in client meetings and coordination activities.
• Perform general planning and research tasks under the supervision of senior staff.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Transportation Planning Urban/Regional Planning Civil Engineering Public Policy Geography or a related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelors degree and plan to continue with the Masters degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelors degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Coursework or experience in transportation or transit planning.
• Familiarity with GIS (ArcGIS or similar).
• Experience with data analysis or visualization tools.
• Interest in public engagement and community-based planning.
• Knowledge of federal state or local transportation programs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint).
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
