Job Summary
Key Responsibilities:
- Open and close the landfill during approved hours of operation.
- Assist the public in proper disposal of solid waste and enforce disposal guidelines.
- Collect and remit disposal fees; maintain transaction records and issue receipts.
- Operate heavy machinery including compactors loaders trucks backhoes dozers and more.
- Ensure proper daily trash coverage and landfill cleanliness.
- Monitor weather and site conditions to ensure safety and compliance.
- Inspect incoming loads for compliance and remove unauthorized materials.
- Maintain accurate records required by KDHE and Thomas County.
- Assist in the handling and preparation of household hazardous waste and recyclable materials.
- Report hazards track landfill activity and maintain closed landfill areas.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of related experience is preferred.
- Valid Drivers License required.
- CDL Class B preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- First Aid/CPR certification and Hazardous Materials Level 1 training preferred.
- Ability to read instructions follow safety procedures and operate heavy equipment.
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Working knowledge of landfill regulations and environmental safety practices.
- Strong mechanical skills and the ability to maintain and operate machinery.
- Good communication skills and the ability to assist the public courteously.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 25 lbs.
Additional Information :
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions with exposure to fumes dust and mechanical hazards.
- Loud noise levels and on-call or weekend shifts may be required during times of the year.
