Job Summary

Job Purpose

The Quality Control function at Smiths Interconnect is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations by performing incoming inprocess and final inspections to ensure products meet internal customer and regulatory requirements. This role executes Customer Source Inspection (CSI) First Article Inspection (FAI) highreliability testing and related quality activities while contributing to continuous improvement compliance and ontime delivery objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming inspection of raw materials and components.
  • Conduct inprocess and final inspections in accordance with drawings procedures and specifications.
  • Execute Customer Source Inspections (CSI) and First Article Inspections (FAI).
  • Perform visual inspections using microscopes and precision tools.
  • Handle and test highly sensitive and delicate equipment to define quality criteria.
  • Accurately collect document and store inspection and test data.
  • Prepare Certificates of Compliance (CoC) and customerspecific quality documentation.
  • Maintain product serialization and traceability records.
  • Follow documented datacollection and recordretention procedures.
  • Identify document and escalate nonconformances.
  • Initiate and support corrective actions (NCR/CAR).
  • Assist in rootcause investigations and verification of corrective measures.
  • Assist with supplier evaluations and incoming quality concerns.
  • Support internal and external ISO audits by providing documentation and inspection evidence.
  • Support contract review activities related to quality requirements.
  • Perform minor mechanical assembly labeling and final packaging of products.
  • Prepare finished goods for transfer to Stores or Shipping.
  • Support achievement of daily and weekly shipping targets.
  • Comply with company Quality Management System Health & Safety and security requirements.
  • Perform other qualityrelated tasks as assigned.

Qualifications :

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Vocational/technical training in manufacturing electronics or mechanical inspection. Preferred.

Additional Qualifications

Preferred some experience with internal audits
Ability to travel domestically and internationally <10%

02 years of experience in Quality Control manufacturing or inspection roles

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of quality control principles inspection methods and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings specifications procedures and work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of visual inspection techniques including use of microscopes and magnification tools for fine and precision components.
  • Familiarity with serialization labeling traceability and documentation requirements in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of product conformity nonconformance identification and corrective action processes (NCR/CAR support).
  • Basic computer skills for data entry inspection records and quality documentation systems.
  • Ability to handle and test delicate sensitive or highreliability components while maintaining product integrity and cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to use measurement tools such as calipers depth gages etc.
  • An in-depth understanding of AS9102 FAIs
  • Good communication skills both written and oral.

Controlled Goods and Technology

A part of this position you will be required to examine handle or transfer highly confidential equipment and technologies including technical data or any technical assistance (such as instructions training etc.) classified as controlled goods. These goods have military or strategic significant are critical to national security and are strictly regulated under the Defence Production Act (DPA) and the Controlled Goods Regulations (CGR) as part of Canadas Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

As a condition of an offer of employment you must agree to undergo a security assessment conducted by Smiths Interconnect Canada designated official in compliance with the CGP and DPA requirements. This screening includes the verification of proof of citizenship or permanent resident status a criminal record and other security check. The disclosure of controlled goods to unauthorized persons is a criminal offense under Canadian law therefor you will be required to strictly comply with all Canadian laws that apply to controlled goods.

Impact: Planning and Decision Making

  • Work is performed according to established procedures inspection plans and schedules.
  • Planning responsibility; prioritizes activities (CSI/FAI) based on daily production inspection and shipping requirements.
  • Decision making is procedural and task focused limited to:
    • Accepting or rejecting materials and products against defined acceptance criteria
    • Identifying and escalating quality issues or deviations
  • All non-routine decisions process changes and disposition of non-conforming material are reviewed or approved by higher level Quality or Engineering roles.

Scope Complexity and Impact

  • Tasks follow clearly defined methods and standards but require high attention to detail due to:
    • Precision components
    • Customer specified quality and reliability requirements
  • Errors or omissions may:
    • Delay shipments
    • Increase rework or scrap
    • Affects customer satisfaction or audit outcomes

Liaisons

  • Internal:
    • Production and Assembly teams inspection coordination and issue resolution
    • Quality Assurance / Quality Engineering escalation of nonconformances and audit support
    • Stores / Shipping release of compliant finished goods
    • Engineering (as required) clarification of drawings or specifications
  • External:
    • Customers (limited) support of Customer Source Inspections and documentation queries
    • Suppliers (through Quality) support incoming quality issue reviews
    • External Auditors and Registrars provide inspection evidence during ISO audits 

Health Safety and Environment Requirements

 

  • Onsite manufacturing and laboratory environment.
  • Extended periods of visual inspection and fine motor work.
  • Handling of delicate and highvalue components.
  • Adherence to Cleanroom Gowning Protocols (full-body suits masks and gloves) and maintain an organized and clean inspection area.
  • Comply with Québec Occupational Health and Safety regulations company safety policies and ISOaligned procedures.
  • Follow safe handling and storage requirements for sensitive delicate or controlled products.
  • Adhere to environmental and wastehandling procedures related to inspection testing and packaging activities.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Must be able to maneuver all areas of the office.
  • Must be able to lift up and carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend reach kneel twist and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
  • Must have manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment
  • Must be able to tolerate changing priorities and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to read write speak and understand English & French.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
  • Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Companys goals.
  • Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
  • Follow all environmental requirements consistently with supporting the companys environmental performance goals.
  • Complete and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements.

Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices manufacturing plants and repair facilities.  Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites and meeting venues. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.
