We are looking to recruit a Transitions Adviser for Colombia to be hosted by UNOCHA. The Transitions Adviser will serve as liaison with the UN Verification Mission to Colombia on political and peace issues and the UN Country Team (UNCT) and Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) as required.

The transitions adviser will strengthen the coherence of the UN System including liaison between the UNCT the HCT and the UN Verification Mission and coordination with the Colombian Government and donors to make tangible contributions towards an inclusive and sustainable peace along the lines of the UN Secretary Generals vision to better connect humanitarian peacebuilding and development efforts

Under the supervision of OCHAs Head of Office advising the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC) and in close coordination with UN Verification Mission to Colombia the Transitions Advisor will provide analytic planning coordination and liaising capacity focusing on the following tasks:

• Provide strategic and analytical support to the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC) for her engagement with Government officials civil society academia and with high-level stakeholders to mobilize the collective impact of the UNCT on peace and development needs.

• Support the RC/HC in the development of coherent UN programmatic engagement in areas aimed at sustaining peace and preventing conflict.

• Support the RC/HC in coordinating interagency results groups aimed at establishing a coherent and integrated UN approach to sustaining peace and conflict prevention (including the normative standards outlined in UN Security Council Resolutions and recommendations by UN Human Rights bodies).

• Serve as substantive liaison with the UN Special Political Mission maintaining regular communication and seeking political guidance to ensure coherence and a coordinated approach on key aspects of peace implementation. Support monitoring of UN actions and facilitate coordination between programme activities
• Support the Resident Coordinators Office in developing partnerships with international stakeholders and efforts to strengthen coordination within the international community in related areas

• Advanced university degree (Masters Degree) in political science sociology international relations international economics law public administration or other related social lieu of an Advanced degree a Bachelor university degree with additional years of experience.

• At least 10 years of experience in areas related to sustaining peace prevention post-conflict transition and recovery including analysis policy and strategy development with governmental multilateral or civil society organization; previous experience with the UN is considered an asset.
• Proven experience of work in peace processes.
• Flexibility to work under pressure and dealing with different topics at the same time.
• Sensibility and awareness of gender priorities related to the area of work;
• Experience and/or readiness to expand knowledge on how to integrate environmental sustainability priorities in areas of work.
• Experience in research policy analysis and programme development;
• A proven policy advisory and advocacy experience and track record of engagement with senior levels of governments EU United Nations or donor community;
• Sound knowledge of and experience in Colombia and/or Latin America region including in dialogue conflict prevention and peacebuilding is an advantage.
• Excellent communications skills.
• Fluent spoken and written English and Spanish is required
