Manage some of the most sensitive and complex claims in the Victorian public sector. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Claims Specialist to work in a high-performing collaborative and trauma-informed team delivering fair and defensible outcomes on matters of significant human legal and public importance with strong wellbeing support built in.

About the role

As a Claims Specialist Sensitive Liability Claims you will manage an end-to-end portfolio of litigated injury claims arising from historical and sensitive matters including institutional abuse and forced adoption.

The work is complex and sensitive requiring sound judgement resilience and a trauma-informed approach with a strong focus on respectful survivor-centred engagement alongside legally complex stakeholder environments. You will manage a smaller portfolio aligned to the nature of the claims working collaboratively within the Sensitive Liability team and supported by a structured wellbeing framework that includes mandatory professional supervision.

The role offers a unique opportunity to build specialist capability in complex liability claims broaden your professional experience and contribute to fair and defensible outcomes that matter in a public sector context.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage an end-to-end portfolio of complex litigated sensitive liability claims.
  • Apply trauma-informed claims practices and build trusted professional relationships when engaging with survivors clients and stakeholders maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Assess liability coverage quantum and risk exercising delegated authority to make fair defensible reserving and settlement recommendations.
  • Instruct and manage panel firms experts and service providers to develop and execute robust claim strategies.
  • Engage confidently in mediations settlement forums and court processes exercising sound judgement in legally and reputationally sensitive matters.
  • Maintain high-quality claim documentation reporting and file management in line with governance audit and public sector requirements.
  • Actively participate in professional supervision and wellbeing practices that support safe and sustainable claims delivery.

  • Insured clients including government departments and funded service providers.
  • Panel firms barristers mediators and expert advisors.
  • Internal stakeholders across Claims Practice Risk Advisors and Underwriting.

What we are looking for

  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end litigated injury or liability claims in complex environments.
  • Strong resilience and professionalism with the ability to work effectively with confronting and sensitive material.
  • Well-developed stakeholder management skills including comfort operating in grey areas and sensitive contexts.
  • A trauma-informed survivor-focused mindset balanced with sound judgement and clear professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a highly collaborative and supportive team.
  • Strong capability inmaintainingaccurate high-quality claim documentationreportingand file management with an understanding of governanceauditand public sector requirements.
  • Backgrounds in sensitive liability institutional abuse psychological injury government claims litigation or public sector insurance will be well regarded.
