Job Summary


The Bilingual Family Advocates primary role is to engage all families to promote childrens healthy development and school readiness. The Bilingual Family Advocate uses knowledge of the principles of family engagement to support families in their roles as their childs primary educator encourages parent/child interactions that promote childrens school readiness and healthy development and enhances family well-being. The Bilingual Family Advocate will also provide more intensive and targeted support to vulnerable families and families of children with chronic health conditions and special needs in order to ensure that our engagement strategies meet their specialized needs.

The Bilingual Family Advocate will work as part of the programs broader team to expand family engagement strategies that will create a sense of belonging and shared community among families with the goal of enhancing the relationships and support that families provide to one another in their shared aspirations for their children and themselves. The position may involve reassignment of caseload and/or center location as deemed necessary for program operations.

Responsibilities

    • Promote Family Environments that Enhance Childrens Development
    • Engage families as partners in their childrens development and school readiness;
    • Participate in outreach recruitment and attendance follow up activities;
    • Engage families in the Family Engagement Contract process in order to build relationships and shared accountability for promoting childrens development;
    • Extend classroom curriculum into the familys home modeling and coaching families on positive adult/child interaction with a focus on coordination and collaboration with education.

    • Support Families to Meet Self-Identified Goals and Needs
    • Utilize family self-assessment information to assist families with goals to enhance self-sufficiency in areas such as education employment housing and access to community resources;
    • Provide intensive support to vulnerable families on caseload and ensure that families receive immediate support during times of crisis;
    • Analyze self-sufficiency data to plan and coordinate family cohort groups that allow families to support one another to achieve self-sufficiency goals;
    • Coordinate or refer families to community-based resources opportunities for continuing education employment training and other services.

    • Engage Families To Support One Another
    • Conduct workshops and activities designed to build social capital and create a welcoming program community that fosters family engagement in childrens learning and development;
    • Cultivate family leadership and support family advocacy efforts through participation in program governance bodies and community-based advisory groups;
    • Support the planning and execution of family engagement activities that provide opportunities for families to support one another.

    • Enhance Program Collaboration
    • Build strong relationships in order to enhance communication and collaboration among internal and external stakeholders;
    • Collaborate with others to support the families of children with chronic health conditions and special needs;
    • Ensure all family medical dental and Early and Periodic Screening Diagnoses and Treatment (EPSDT) determinations are completed by program deadlines.

    • Eligibility Recruitment Selection Enrollment and Attendance
    • Support the functioning of all eligibility recruitment selection enrollment and attendance systems events and activities;
    • Review application and eligibility documents and work directly with families to ensure that all documentation is accurate complete and timely;
    • Determine family eligibility for extended-day services and assist families with completing child care subsidy applications;
    • Plan and host admission and application events for families;
    • Conduct daily calls to families of children that are absent develop attendance goals with families and support them with strategies to ensure attendance remains high;
    • Provide clerical support for attendance monitoring.

    • Spanish-English Translation and Interpretation
    • Provide translation and interpretation as needed including but not limited to translating documents facilitating family meetings supporting trainings activities and workshops for families and enabling communication between families and staff.

    • Maintain Accurate and Timely Record Keeping and Reporting
    • Ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping and documentation of all case notes ERSEA information Family Self Assessments Family Partnership Agreements etc.
    • Record monitor and follow up on referrals for support services for reporting requirements;
    • Generate and submit reports as requested.

    • Additional duties related to the running of the site as assigned.

Qualifications

    • Education Requirement:
    • Associate or Bachelors Degree in Social Work Human Services Family Services/Engagement Counseling or a related field
    • OR Associates or Bachelors Degree in another field with commitment to complete a Family Development Certificate or Credential within 18 months of hire;
    • OR a High School Diploma WITH 3 years experience working in the community with families AND a commitment to complete a Family Development Certificate or Credential within 18 months of hire.
    • Bilingual in Spanish and English required;
    • Experience with supporting diverse populations of families and students;
    • A passion for achieving positive child and family outcomes through high-quality family engagement;
    • Self-motivated reliable and able to work independently;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences (including colleagues students families);
    • Demonstrated computer literacy skills (Google Suite Microsoft Suite data systems etc.);
    • A desire to make a difference in the lives of our students families and community;
    • A desire and ability to receive and implement feedback;
    • A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM including the desire to make a difference in the lives of our students families and community;
    • Obtain and maintain certification in CPR and first aid;
    • A physical exam fingerprinting and a background check are required for this position.

    • This role is 5 days a week in person.

Compensation

    • DREAM offers a competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience. The incoming annual salary range for this position is $65000 - $75000. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications internal equity and the budgeted amount for the role. All regular employees receive annual compensation increases and have the opportunity to earn both performance- and tenure-based bonuses. Because we value tenure in each role our salary ranges are not capped.
