BIW is seeking a highly skilled Voice and Network Engineer to join our team and help us maintain and improve our communication and network systems by assisting with designing implementing and maintaining components that support enterprise voice network and data systems. The position is on-site located at the shipyard in Bath Maine.

The successful candidate will work within a larger team of network engineers whose responsibility is to monitor and manage the Bath Iron Works (BIW) WAN and LAN networks. This position requires a strong background in voice and networking. If you are a problem-solver a strategic thinker and have a strong background in voice and network engineering we would love to have you on board.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership:

  • This position is on site in a manufacturing facility. Successful candidate must adhere to all company safety requirements.

Project Execution:

  • Maintain voice data and video network hardware and systems to ensure minimal downtime. Investigate resolve and escalate technical incidents. Research analyze and isolate errors and assist with network assessments.
  • Test various voice or data equipment such as private branch exchanges (PBX) voice mail and call management systems as well as help support other network technologies.
  • Provide technical support for internal and/or external customers answer technical questions as well as recommend and implement approved course of action. Identify and resolve complex voice and network issues.
  • Perform configuration changes on various voice or data equipment such as PBX voice mail call management systems routers switches etc. to enhance performance.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of voice/network solutions including hardware software and device configurations.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for voice systems.
  • Monitor voice performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Training and Development:

  • Train and mentor junior engineers on voice systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for voice and network systems.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Deliver safety leadership project execution team collaboration and communication as well as continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of voice and network systems.
  • Manage and maintain vendor relationships for voice and network equipment and services.
  • Effectively collaborate with teams and vendors on ongoing site improvement and construction projects.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Ongoing curiosity to stay updated on industry trends and advancements in voice and network technology.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Bachelors degree in computer science engineering or a related field. Related work experience and/or certifications will be considered in lieu of degree.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Voice and Network Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of voice and network protocols such as SIP BGP and OSPF.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Avaya PBX phone system knowledge and certifications are a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills as well as strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening for any Federally prohibited drugs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience and solid knowledge of voice principles telephony software hardware and voice.
  • Experience working with heterogenous enterprise systems.
  • Experience configuring and monitoring enterprise voice systems.
  • Knowledge of current enterprise voice hardware protocols and Internet standards.
  • Competency with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
