The school nurse is a part-time employee compensated through an agreed-upon stipend. It is anticipated that the nurse will work approximately 50 hours over the course of the school year. Work hours and dates are flexible and will be determined in collaboration with the school principals.
Health Services & Student Care
Provide routine health services to students during the school day in accordance with school policies and state regulations.
Monitor student health concerns and communicate with parents/guardians as needed.
Assist with kindergarten screening including developmental readiness support.
Conduct vision screening as part of kindergarten screening.
Provide hearing and vision screenings for designated grade levels and communicate results to parents as appropriate.
Health Education
Teach the Medication Administration course to non-medical school personnel including the school secretary and principal ensuring compliance with state requirements.
Provide Growth and Development instruction for 5th-grade students in a developmentally appropriate and values-based manner consistent with Catholic teaching.
Compliance & Reporting
Obtain and submit class rosters and current immunization records for kindergarten 6th grade and transfer students to the appropriate state office.
Obtain heights and weights for students in grades K-12 and submit data to the state for the childhood obesity study.
Maintain accurate confidential health records in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Campus Health & Safety
Monitor campus Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) on a monthly basis and update or service equipment as needed.
Support school administration in maintaining health and safety preparedness on campus.
Collaboration & Communication
Work collaboratively with school administrators faculty and staff to support student health needs.
Serve as a liaison between the school families and healthcare providers when appropriate.
Communicate clearly and compassionately with parents regarding screenings health concerns and follow-up recommendations.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license as required by state regulations
Experience in school nursing or pediatric healthcare preferred
Knowledge of state health reporting requirements and school health regulations
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to the mission values and teachings of the Catholic Church
