Primary Purpose
The Academic Advisor & Assessment Coordinator serves a dual role supporting student academic planning for 6th and 7th-grade students(primarily) while also managing campus and district assessment programs. This position ensures students receive intentional academic guidance while maintaining the integrity compliance and effectiveness of all state and federally mandated testing programs.
Qualifications
Education / Certification
- Bachelors degree required; Masters degree in guidance counseling or school administration preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate required
- Valid Texas school counselor certificate or Testing Coordinator experience preferred.
At the middle school level personal graduation planning may be completed by a counselor administrator teacher or other appropriate designee in accordance with TEC 28.0212.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience
- Experience with student assessment coordination or data management preferred
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Knowledge of middle school academic planning and career exploration
- Strong understanding of state assessment programs and accountability systems
- Ability to interpret assessment data to guide academic decision-making
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage confidential records and ensure testing security
- Ability to train and support staff in testing procedures
- Proficiency with student information systems and assessment platforms
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Academic Advising (6th7th Grade Primarily)
- Provide academic advising and guidance to 6th and 7th grade students (primarily) to support academic growth goal setting and long-term readiness
- Collaborate with the Chief Academic Officer and campus administrators to develop review and monitor academic plans
- Support students and families with course planning and academic decision-making
- Assist campus administration with student scheduling and review schedule change requests
- Interpret assessment and academic data to support student goal setting and targeted interventions
Assessment Coordination & Testing Compliance
- Coordinate and manage all campus and district state and federally mandated assessment programs
- Ensure test security confidentiality and compliance with all testing regulations
- Organize distribute collect and secure all testing materials
- Train and support campus testing administrators and staff
- Maintain accurate testing databases records and reports
- Coordinate testing accommodations for students receiving special services and LEP students
- Identify investigate and report testing irregularities as required
- Serve as a campus resource for testing procedures timelines and accountability expectations
- Attend all required district and state assessment trainings
Program Management & Administration
- Compile maintain and secure all required documentation reports and records
- Ensure timely submission of all testing materials and reports
- Comply with federal and state law State Board of Education rules and board policy
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise testing administrators and support staff as assigned
- May supervise clerical or support personnel related to assessment and advising functions
Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
Tools/Equipment Used:
Personal computer assessment platforms standard office and instructional equipment
Mental Demands:
Maintain emotional control under stress; manage multiple deadlines and compliance requirements
Physical Demands:
Prolonged sitting; frequent walking; occasional bending lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment:
Primarily indoor work; occasional district-wide travel
