The Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the worlds busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Departments main goal is to provide the fire protection emergency medical care and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire life safety and disaster preparedness along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865 FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. The Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) seeks a qualified candidate with a proven record of success to be its Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer (CDIO). The selected candidate will serve as Associate Commissioner reporting directly to the Commissioner of the FDNY. The CDIO will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies around fostering an inclusive workplace culture; designing diversity and inclusion efforts agency-wide with particular focus on the uniformed staff; serving as a liaison to employee affinity organizations at the FDNY; work extensively with the Department for Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and the Law Department to comply with City requirements specific to addition to this role the candidate will also serve as a member of FDNYs leadership team and will work collaboratively across the agency as well as with city-wide diversity best practice groups to monitor and implement diversity initiatives.
