Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Services Coordinator this person assists in the management and operations of chemistry preparation rooms in support of chemistry instruction and research. The Assistant Lab Services Coordinator prepares solutions and reagents according to standard procedures and assists with chemical waste processing maintenance of instruments and apparatus and record keeping. The Assistant Lab Services Coordinator supervises student workers and assures that student workers learn and follow appropriate safety protocols. At the discretion of the Laboratory Services Coordinator this position purchases chemicals laboratory supplies and apparatus. During the summer months the Assistant Lab Services Coordinator provides administrative support to the Department of Chemistry.
Qualifications:
A bachelors degree (BA/BS) with academic major in chemistry or a bachelors degree with another science major with an academic minor in chemistry is required. Additionally some chemistry laboratory experience which can be college-level chemistry laboratory experience as a student is also required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word) for maintaining records related to laboratory setup and documentation.
Skilled in spreadsheet applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel) for tracking chemical inventory and purchase records.
Ability to learn and utilize University system(s) for processing orders.
Knowledge of chemistry laboratory practices including safe and accurate handling of chemicals and proper waste disposal procedures.
Physical ability to lift and transport containers of chemical solutions weighing up to 2530 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
