Job Summary

Western NSW Community Legal Centre Inc. (WNSWCLC) is seeking a skilled and committed Financial Counsellor to join our team within our specialist unit Western Womens Legal Support (WWLS). This is a critical frontline role delivering specialist financial counselling and advocacy to victim-survivors of domestic and family violence across Western New South Wales. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary legal service to support clients experiencing complex disadvantage in their safety stability and long-term financial independence who are experiencing complex disadvantage.

Western NSW Community Legal Centre (WNSWCLC) is a not-for-profit organisation working to improve access to justice for people facing disadvantage across the region. We provide free legal advice representation referrals and community education to empower and support our communities. The specialist unit Western Womens Legal Support (WWLS) delivers trauma-informed culturally safe support to women and children affected by domestic and family violence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Financial Counsellor you will be embedded within our specialist unit Western Womens Legal Support (WWLS) working closely with solicitors and support staff to deliver integrated legal and financial assistance. Reporting to the Principal Solicitor this role focuses on supporting victim-survivors to address financial abuse debt housing insecurity and economic hardship through high-quality counselling and advocacy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing trauma-informed financial counselling and advocacy to victim-survivors of domestic and family violence
  • Assisting clients with debt fines credit issues utilities income support and financial abuse matters
  • Working collaboratively with lawyers and support workers to deliver holistic wrap-around services
  • Supporting referrals to appropriate non-legal and community services
  • Participating in outreach services across regional and remote communities
  • Contributing to culturally safe practice community education and systemic advocacy initiatives

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate professional who is committed to access to justice and social equity. You will have:

  • A Diploma of Financial Counselling (or equivalent) and eligibility for membership with a recognised financial counselling association
  • 24 years experience providing financial counselling to people experiencing disadvantage
  • Strong knowledge of debt credit fines income support systems and financial abuse
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a trauma-informed client-centred manner
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex information clearly
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload independently
  • A commitment to social justice and gender equity
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to travel for outreach
  • Experience in a community legal centre working with First Nations communities or knowledge of domestic and family violence systems is highly desirable.

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary Packaging: Take advantage of not-for-profit salary packaging to reduce your tax liability and maximise your take-home pay.
  • Remuneration package: from $95000 $100000 per annum ( depending on experience) plus superannuation. This is contract position
