Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for a curious motivated Graduate Electrical Engineer who is ready to start their careers in a supportive purpose-driven environment. The position is based in Brisbane Australia as part of the Sequence Alliance.

The Sequence Alliance brings together four organisations Hitachi Rail the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland Rail and the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority as One Team with One Goal: to digitally transform South East Queenslands (SEQ) rail network. This collaboration unites Queensland Rails 160 years of local experience and operational excellence with Hitachi Rails global expertise in rail and digital signaling solutions.

As a Graduate you will rotate through key areas of the Program gain hands-on experience and build strong foundations through structured learning mentoring and real project work. You will be trusted with meaningful responsibilities from day one while being supported by experienced leaders who are invested in your development.

During your program you will work on real projects that make a tangible impact collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders learn industry best practices through on the job learning and build technical professional and leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer you will develop strong technical capability in electrical engineering while gaining practical hands-on experience across the Sequence Program. Throughout the two-year graduate journey you will build solid foundational knowledge and progress through specialised areas including installation telecommunications trackside systems and cyber security.

  • Assist in the development of systems and technical documentation.
  • Conduct testing troubleshooting and validation to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Contribute to the installation commissioning and inspection of signalling power and communications equipment across trackside environments.
  • Work on system infrastructure interpret and maintain technical drawings and specifications for system integration.
  • Assist senior engineers in ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards within signaling sytems.
  • Support project management tasks gathering data analysing documenting integrating and reporting technical findings.
  • Contribute to planning and reporting of activities.
  • Ensure all work adheres to project scope and requirements engineering standards electrical regulations and rail safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety processes site inductions and risk assessments
  • Liaise with engineers supervisors contractors and stakeholders to support best-for-project outcomes.
  • Engage in cross-team rotations learning from signalling telecoms trackside and operational system experts.
  • Participate in structured graduate development programs including workshops mentoring technical training and site tours.
  • Actively engage in performance development upskilling and hands-on learning in real operational environments.

Skills and Experience:

The qualifications and skills required for the role of Graduate Electrical Engineer will encompass a wide range of attributes including:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering
  • Less than 2 years of experience
  • Be curious proactive and eager to learn about the railway industry
