Year 1 Teacher – Bishops Stortford

Teach and Inspire Pupils at the Start of Key Stage 1

We are seeking a dedicated enthusiastic and experienced Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Bishops Stortford starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to teach pupils as they transition from Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1 helping them consolidate their early learning while fostering a love of reading writing and maths.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 1 class delivering high-quality engaging lessons across the curriculum. You will join a supportive Key Stage 1 team where collaborative planning reflection and professional development are encouraged. Leadership is approachable and committed to providing guidance and resources to enable teachers to succeed.

The Role

As a Year 1 Teacher you will plan deliver and assess lessons that challenge pupils while supporting a wide range of abilities. You will use assessment to monitor pupil progress identify gaps in learning and inform future planning. Supporting pupils social and emotional development is a key aspect of the role helping them build confidence resilience and independence.

You will work closely with teaching assistants colleagues and senior leaders to ensure consistency and high-quality teaching across Key Stage 1. Effective communication with parents and carers is essential to keep them informed about their childs learning and progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan deliver and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum

• Monitor pupil progress and use assessment to inform planning and differentiation

• Support pupils with varying learning needs including SEND and EAL learners

• Maintain a safe structured and inclusive classroom environment

• Promote positive behaviour resilience and independence

• Collaborate with teaching assistants and Key Stage 1 colleagues

• Communicate effectively with parents and carers

• Participate in staff meetings CPD and school-wide initiatives

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Have experience teaching Key Stage 1 ideally Year 1

• Be confident in curriculum delivery assessment and differentiation

• Have excellent classroom management and organisational skills

• Be reflective proactive and adaptable

• Demonstrate commitment to inclusive practice and safeguarding

• Have a positive professional approach to teamwork
