The Cardiac(Coronary) Cath Lab unit at the Meijer Heart Center is a highly specialized procedural unit focusing on providing care to patients having a variety of cardiac conditions.The lab is a very fast-paced dynamic unit that quickly adapts to emergent situations. It consists of 5 procedure rooms providing care for patients experiencing issues with heart failure; structural issues; peripheral circulatory issues; and coronary issues such as chest pain STEMI(ST elevated myocardial infarction NSTEMI(Non-ST elevated myocardial infarction). Nurses are drawn to thecathlab not only for the wide variety of procedures we perform but also for the cutting edge procedures we provide to patients. We consistently have one of the highest volumes of STEMI patients in Michigan caring for over 300 STEMI patients per year. Our nurses become experts in caring for a large array of patients including but not limited to (patients with)Impellas; IABPs; swan-ganzcatheters; ECMO; management of unstable/declining patients including medication management. Nurses learn the unique skill of caring for a patient including monitoring assessing sedating while performing the tasks of the procedure.
Our lab is committed in providing the safest and best experience not only for the patients but staff as well. The lab has been very successful in promoting radiation safety for patients and 2017 we received the Golden Innovations Award for our work in promoting radiation safety for patients and staff.
The culture of the labemphasizes team work as well supportive interpersonal relationships among staff members creating a family-like environment. Staff work very closely with physicians. There has been a lot of work done to decrease the power distance between staff and physicians. The atmosphere of the unit is one of collaboration and mutual respect.
Summary
Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment diagnosis outcomes identification planning implementation and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice culturally congruent practice communication collaboration leadership education evidence-based practice and research quality of practice professional practice evaluation resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.
Basic Qualifications
Associates Degree Nursing - Required
Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing must be obtained within 5 years
Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program - Required
Registered Nurse (RN) License in State of Michigan - Required Upon Hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 days
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Required within 180 days
Preferred Qualifications
Clinical Area of Specialty Certification Preferred
2 years of RN experience
