About the role:

Boston Scientific is seeking a motivated and experienced Human Factors Engineer to apply HFE principles to products throughout the development lifecycle. The successful candidate will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of the Interventional Cardiology division.

Be a part of one of Boston Scientifics most product-diverse divisions supporting R&D in the design of exciting new products and business development activities. These products adhere to industry standards and include computing devices single-use devices and support devices.

Work Mode:
At Boston Scientific we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our Austin TX office at least three days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Understanding the clinical domain and technical knowledge of the system/device to be evaluated.
  • Leading Task Analysis activities.
  • Contributing to cross-functional discussions on the Use Specification & Use Error Analysis.
  • Contribute to the projects Usability Engineering plan.
  • Design and coordinate internal personnel for Subject Matter Expert (SME) review of concepts at varying levels of fidelity.
  • Lead moderate analyze data and report out on Formative/Summative studies.

Studies performed:

  • Studies will be performed in person and travel may be required.
  • Analyzing the data from formative studies and writing the report.
  • Planning Formative and Summative Usability Studies based on results from SME reviews.
  • Working with the Study Coordinator when recruiting Health Care Professionals for testing.
  • Authoring the Human Factors/Usability Engineering Summary Report.

Required qualifications:

  • BS in Human Factors Engineering or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in Human Factors or Usability Engineering.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry.

Demonstrated knowledge skills and abilities in Human Factors work such as:

  • Creating or updating Task Analyses & Use Error Analyses.
  • Developing usability requirements.
  • Authoring usability protocols screeners and moderator guides.
  • Executing studies (formative and summative) including moderation data collection and simulated use testing.
  • Analyzing data and writing reports.
  • Experience in performing risk assessments and trade-off analyses.
  • Experience writing Human Factors/Usability Engineering Summary Reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • US & International travel may be required for study execution.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree or PhD in Human Factors or Usability Engineering.
  • Three (3) years or more of experience with medical device quality systems and developing Class II or Class III medical devices.
  • Board Certification in Human Factors (i.e. via Oxford Research Institute or Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics).

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) see vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training pertinent education including licensure and certifications among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly) non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g. any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).

Compensation for exempt non-sales roles may also include variable compensation i.e. annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
