INVENTORY CONTROL SPECIALIST



LOCATION:FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT PURCHASING SECTION JOINT ADMINISTRATION OFFICE WHITTIER


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To plan coordinate and provide administrative oversight and inventory control over warehouses stockrooms and storerooms throughout the Districts.

JOB SUMMARY: The major job duties are listed below. For a detailed list please see thejob description.

Under the supervision of a Purchasing Supervisor or higher classification the incumbent will:

  • Exercise administrative oversight and control over the operations of all District warehouses stockrooms and satellite storerooms.
  • Establish revise and enforce standardized procedures policies and methods for all warehouse and stockroom operations by providing instruction and creating manuals and memoranda on procedures.
  • Review stock room requisitions to confirm availability of items and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels at all locations by evaluating usage reports and replenishing items as needed.
  • Compile and maintain manual or computerized records such as material inventory and status and location of materials to evaluate inventory accuracy and value.
  • Analyze inventory reports and working with Warehouse Coordinators Storekeepers and Stock Clerks to resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Develop procedures and practices to prevent the loss of stock items through theft and pilferage.
  • Recommend coordinate and assist in the implementation of changes to the computerized inventory control system.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to confirm order details track deliveries resolve discrepancies and maintain positive working relationships to support timely procurement and replenishment of stock.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess all of the following:

  • A valid California Class C driver license; AND
  • One of the following options:
    • Option A: Two (2) years of experience in the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County as a General Services Worker Stock Clerk Storekeeper or Warehouse Coordinator
    • Option B: Two (2) years of experience with the primary responsibility for inventory control using computerized inventory systems to receive store and issue supplies and equipment

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management Logistics Business Administration Industrial Technology or a related field
  • ASCM Certification (e.g. CTSC CPIM CSPC CLTD)
  • Experience performing inventory control and materials management in a multi-site warehouse or storeroom environment preferably in a public-sector utility or industrial setting
  • Experience coordinating with suppliers and vendors to track orders resolve delivery discrepancies and support timely replenishment
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Requisition review and inventory discrepancy resolution
    • Inventory level analysis usage reporting and replenishment planning
    • Physical inventory counts cycle counts and variance reconciliation
    • Coordination with warehouse staff to maintain inventory accuracy
  • Proficiency using computerized inventory control systems (e.g. ERP/WMS) to track material status location and valuation and generate inventory reports

EXAMPLES OF ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Knowledge of:

  • Best practices for coordinating workflows and training personnel across multiple warehouses and stockrooms
  • Modern warehouse operations methods and procedures
  • Methods of stock control and inventory
  • Computerized asset management systems
  • Word processing database and spreadsheet software
  • Applicable safety practices
  • Financial planning principles related to warehouse and inventory operations

Ability to:

  • Plan and coordinate the work of staff performing warehouse and stockroom functions
  • Formulate and implement policies and procedures
  • Coordinate the functioning of multiple warehouses stockrooms and satellite storerooms
  • Create clear and concise reports and spreadsheets
  • Solve complex warehouse problems and improve processes
  • Provide effective customer service
  • Communicate clearly orally and in writing
  • Forecast Districts warehousing needs

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Selection Process:
  • All applications will be reviewed to determine if the conditions and qualifications for testing are met.
  • The selection process consists of a written test weighted at 30% and an interview weighted at 70% and will be the same for all qualified applicants.
  • Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process.
  • The written test will be held on Tuesday February 10 2026.
  • The interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of February 16 2026.
