Role Overview

We are looking for a caring proactive and skilled Behaviour Mentor to join a primary school in Cheshunt Hertfordshire. The school is committed to supporting every childs academic and emotional development and creating a safe nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

As a Behaviour Mentor you will support pupils who experience difficulties with behaviour emotional regulation or engagement in learning. Many children may have SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) needs ADHD anxiety or low self-esteem. Others may need guidance in developing social skills coping strategies and confidence in school life.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building trusting relationships with primary-aged children delivering structured pastoral interventions and collaborating with teaching staff to ensure all pupils can reach their potential.


Purpose of the Behaviour Mentor Role

The Behaviour Mentors role is to provide targeted support to children who face barriers to learning due to behavioural and emotional challenges. The role combines proactive and reactive interventions:

  • Proactive support: Lead 1:1 mentoring sessions and small group interventions that focus on emotional regulation self-confidence social skills and resilience.

  • Reactive support: Respond calmly and effectively to behavioural incidents helping pupils manage emotions repair relationships and return to learning positively.

The school follows a trauma-informed and restorative approach recognising that challenging behaviour often signals unmet emotional needs. You will help pupils understand and manage their emotions develop coping strategies and build positive relationships with peers and staff.


Key Responsibilities

As a Behaviour Mentor in Cheshunt your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 mentoring for pupils needing additional emotional or behavioural support.

  • Running small group sessions focused on social skills emotional regulation resilience and problem-solving.

  • Supporting pupils in classrooms to maintain focus engagement and appropriate behaviour.

  • Assisting during unstructured times such as break times lunchtimes and transitions to reduce conflict and promote positive social interactions.

  • Calmly de-escalating challenging behaviour using restorative techniques.

  • Supporting pupils after incidents to reflect on behaviour repair relationships and develop positive strategies for future situations.

  • Collaborating with teachers SENCOs and pastoral staff to design and implement individual behaviour support plans.

  • Keeping accurate records of interventions incidents and progress reporting outcomes to senior staff.

  • Encouraging restorative practices empathy and problem-solving skills among pupils.

  • Maintaining safeguarding compliance and professional boundaries at all times.

  • Experience delivering 1:1 or small group interventions.

  • Relevant qualifications in education pastoral care or child development.
