Purpose of the Behaviour Mentor Role

The Behaviour Mentors role is to help pupils overcome barriers to learning caused by behavioural or emotional difficulties. Your work will involve both proactive and reactive support:

  • Proactive support: Plan and deliver 1:1 mentoring and small group interventions focusing on emotional regulation resilience confidence and social skills.

  • Reactive support: Provide timely support during behavioural incidents helping pupils manage emotions repair relationships and return positively to learning.

The school operates a trauma-informed restorative approach to behaviour recognising that challenging behaviour often signals unmet needs. You will support children in understanding their emotions developing coping strategies and building positive relationships with peers and adults.


Key Responsibilities

As a Behaviour Mentor in Borehamwood your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 mentoring for pupils needing additional behavioural or emotional support.

  • Leading small group sessions to develop social skills self-confidence emotional regulation and resilience.

  • Supporting pupils in classrooms to maintain engagement focus and positive behaviour.

  • Assisting during unstructured times such as break times lunchtimes and transitions to reduce conflict and promote positive social interaction.

  • Calmly de-escalating challenging behaviour using restorative strategies.

  • Supporting pupils after incidents to reflect on behaviour repair relationships and develop strategies for improvement.

  • Collaborating with teachers SENCOs and pastoral staff to implement individual behaviour support plans.

  • Maintaining accurate records of interventions incidents and outcomes.

  • Promoting restorative practices empathy and problem-solving skills.

  • Upholding safeguarding policies and professional boundaries at all times.
