Role Overview

A welcoming primary school in Rickmansworth Hertfordshire is seeking a dedicated empathetic and proactive Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral support team. Purpose of the Behaviour Mentor Role

The Behaviour Mentors role is to help pupils overcome barriers to learning caused by behavioural or emotional difficulties. The role involves both proactive and reactive support:

  • Proactive support: Plan and deliver 1:1 mentoring and small group interventions focusing on social skills emotional regulation confidence and resilience.

  • Reactive support: Offer immediate guidance during behavioural incidents helping pupils manage emotions repair relationships and return to learning positively.

The school follows a trauma-informed restorative approach recognising that challenging behaviour is often an expression of unmet emotional needs. As a Behaviour Mentor you will support children in understanding their feelings developing coping strategies and building positive relationships with peers and adults.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring for pupils needing additional behavioural or emotional support.

  • Lead small group sessions to develop social skills resilience emotional regulation and self-confidence.

  • Support pupils in classrooms to maintain focus engagement and positive behaviour.

  • Assist during unstructured times such as playtimes lunchtimes and transitions encouraging positive peer interactions.

  • Calmly de-escalate challenging behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed strategies.

  • Guide pupils after incidents to reflect on behaviour repair relationships and develop strategies for future improvement.

  • Collaborate with teachers SENCOs and pastoral staff to implement individual behaviour support plans.

  • Maintain accurate records of interventions incidents and pupil progress.

  • Promote restorative practices empathy and problem-solving skills among pupils.

  • Uphold safeguarding policies and professional boundaries at all times.
