Job Summary

Canterbury College is a high-performing award-winning Anglican ELC to 12 school serving the dynamic growth corridor of Logan and the southside of Brisbane.

Canterbury was established in 1987 as an academic school in the grammar school tradition. There is an unrelenting focus in the school on all-roundedness in our students reflecting that academics sport performing arts service and leadership are core dimensions of a Canterbury education.

About The Role

We are seeking a Head of House with a passion for holistic student development to lead a dynamic team focused on nurturing well-rounded principled and compassionate young people. The six Heads of House report to the Head of Senior School and are each supported by an Assistant Head of House and six form teachers. At Canterbury there are approximately 150 students per House in the Senior School.

We have an extremely successful vertical pastoral care model and our students are fiercely proud to belong to their House and to contribute as servant leaders friends and mentors. Canterburys outstanding academic culture and sense of community is in many ways a function of our House-based academic care model.

The successful candidate will ideally commence in Term 2. Promotional positions are appointed for a period of five years with the possibility of extension.

Your role:

As Head of House youll be the compass guiding students through their academic and character development journey within the supportive Anglican ethos of Canterbury College.

From overseeing tracking in the Four Dimensions of a Canterbury Education to building a strong house culture youll be an advocate mentor and leader. The Head of House accepts firstly the overall responsibility for the welfare management and support of each Senior School student in the House and secondly the contribution of the House to Canterbury events and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Advocacy:Build meaningful relationships with students and parents providing mentorship and timely support.
  • Holistic Development:Monitor and enhance each students academic and personal growth including academic progress and engagement in service sport and performing arts from goal-setting to intervention.
  • Culture-Building:Instil a sense of pride unity and community spirit within the House.
  • Behaviour and Presentation:Uphold high standards for behaviour uniform and overall student presentation.
  • Event Coordination:Lead intra and inter-House events and activities.
  • Deliver the Character and Resilience Education (CaRE) curriculum:Teach timetabled CaRE lessons across various year levels.
Heads of House teach 0.4 in their teaching area deliver some CaRE curriculum lessons and have a generous time allocation and promotional position allowance.
