The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and school-sponsored activities in compliance with state and federal regulations Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) guidelines and district policies. The Bus Driver ensures passenger safety maintains student discipline and conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle. This position supports theScott County R-IV School District Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) by ensuring reliable student access to educational programs and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The individual who holds this position has the responsibility to:
- Safely transport students on assigned routes and to extracurricular events.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Follow all traffic laws safety regulations and district policies while operating the bus.
- Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus.
- Assist students including those with special needs in safely boarding and exiting the bus.
- Report accidents incidents and unsafe conditions to the Transportation Director immediately.
- Complete required reports including mileage route logs and student discipline referrals.
- Ensure that the bus is clean and presentable for daily use.
- Participate in required safety training driver meetings and professional development.
- Follow emergency procedures in the event of an accident or breakdown.
- Support implementation of CSIP goals related to safe and reliable student other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Superintendent.
Supervisory Duties
- The Bus Driver does not supervise other staff but is responsible for the supervision and safety of students while on the bus.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Certificates Licenses Registrations
- Valid Missouri Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements.
- Current Missouri School Bus Driver Permit.
- Current satisfactory medical physical.
- Satisfactory driving record and successful completion of state and federal background checks.
- CPR/First Aid certification required.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to operate a school bus safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of traffic laws defensive driving techniques and safety regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students parents and staff.
- Ability to maintain discipline and manage student behavior on the bus.
- Ability to complete required records and reports accurately.
- Physical ability to assist students with mobility needs.

- Is regularly required to sit hear and speak while operating the bus.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds when assisting students or handling equipment.

- Must be able to react quickly in emergency situations.

Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
