Job Duties

As a certified Hearing Officer render monetary and non-monetary determinations concerning claimants eligibility or qualification for unemployment benefits based on findings of facts from claimants and employers and application of law and regulations.

Review assigned cases and case documentation; respond to inquiries; schedule required hearings promptly; conduct fact-finding interviews with claimants and employers; document statements and hearing process; and prepare and release monetary and non-monetary determinations concerning claimants eligibility or qualification for UI benefits.

Ensure related actions comply with applicable laws and regulations including DOL standards related to first pay timeliness and quality.

Serve as technical resource; provide oversight training mentoring and support to staff; coordinate the work flow; participate in the hiring process; ensure business needs are met; and report issues to the Adjudication Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of the claims taking process and related rules and regulations governing eligibility.

Strong interpersonal decision making customer service skills and computer.

Demonstrated ability to obtain and evaluate evidence and render eligibility determinations within tight deadlines; ensure administrative and programmatic requirements are performed; interact effectively with management technical and non-technical staff employers claimants and the general public; conduct research; collect and analyze data; contribute to a team environment; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

Experience in unemployment compensation programs which provide knowledge of the UI law and regulations (e.g. Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act) supervisory experience and demonstrated flexibility and reasonable learning capacity for variance in work assignments.
