Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The Student Activities Coordinator supports undergraduate student engagement leadership development and co-curricular programming at the Waterbury Campus. This position plays a central role in advising student government and organizations coordinating leadership initiatives and fostering experiential learning opportunities that reflect and engage the surrounding diverse community.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills sound judgment ethical decision-making and a deep commitment to antiracist practice equity and inclusion as well as a commitment to fostering a welcoming inclusive campus climate that supports a diverse student body. This position requires collaboration with campus colleagues and system-wide partners to enhance the undergraduate student experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Government & Financial Oversight

  • Advise the Associated Student Government (ASG) including the executive board committee chairs and standing committees in planning and managing policies programs and general operations in accordance with University Tier III organization policies.
  • Serve as campus-level financial oversight for the ASG budget including training purchasing procedures transaction protocols reporting requirements and inventory management.
  • Support ASG with purchasing processes and financial documentation.

Student Organizations & Engagement

  • Monitor the student organization registration process including review of new Registered Student Organization (RSO) applications development and implementation of training requirements and tracking compliance.
  • Advise and assist RSOs in program planning policy development goal setting fiscal and risk management recruitment public relations marketing and organizational governance.
  • Maintain visibility and ongoing engagement with student organizations and connect students to community resources service learning leadership development and career development opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison between RSOs and the Department of Student Activities at the Storrs campus.

Leadership Development & Programming

  • Plan develop and implement leadership development initiatives for undergraduate students including training education recognition and skill-building opportunities.
  • Design and deliver programs that encourage accountability self-reflection meaningful action and collaboration while aligning with the campus mission and local community.
  • Plan and assist with campus-wide events such as Week of Welcome Involvement Fairs and end-of-semester celebrations.

Orientation & First-Year Experience

  • Coordinate administrative aspects of the New Student Orientation program including registration systems room scheduling catering and supply orders.
  • Recruit train and supervise student Orientation Leaders.
  • Teach within the First Year Experience program as assigned.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work closely with the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion to develop and advance antiracist practices and programs. Collaborate with campus colleagues and regional campuses to support shared initiatives and programming. Maintain thorough knowledge of applicable University and state policies regulations and laws; monitor compliance and provide guidance to student organizations.
  • May assist with academic advising for new and current students regarding course selection scheduling and academic requirements.
  • Perform related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelors degree in an appropriate field and three to four years of experiencein student activities leadership development student organization advising or related area; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Demonstrated leadership organizational and programming skills.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
  4. Demonstrated written communication skills.
  5. Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Word Excel Teams and Outlook.
  6. Experience using social media platforms for student engagement and communication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Masters degree in Higher Education Administration Student Personnel or related field.
  2. Experience in a higher education setting.

This is a full-time permanent position. Candidates must have a willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends to support campus events.
