This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtainSecurity Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role youve been recruited for. If it isnt obtained or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isnt obtained within 12 months.

Job description

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Environmental Professionals to join our Independent Safety and Environmental Assurance (ISEA) team within the wider Expert Services this role you will provide expert environmental assurance and support across a range of complex defence projects ensuring compliance with environmental standards policies and legislation. You will play a key role in embedding environmental considerations into the lifecycle of equipment and infrastructure projects contributing to the delivery of sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions.

The ISEA team are specialists in safety environmental protection and functional safety including Programmable Element assurance. Our role is to provide independent assurance to safety and environmental staff at all levels ensuring compliance with legislation as well as internal requirements and supporting the DE&S unified SEMS. Each team member brings expertise in the legislation policies regulations and standards for one or more DE&S environments or technologies or those of external customers.

Initially you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site the team and your role.

What youll be doing

  • Manage and participate in assurance audit and artefact reviews activity.

  • Manage the assurance of environmental aspects of disposals and decommissioning of basic equipment.

  • Provides recommendations and informed environmental policy advice to decision makers through Project Environmental Panels.

  • Produces reviews and recommends acceptance of environmental artefacts.

  • Work with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation and regulations MOD regulations and DE&S Policy. Assure against the development of artefacts that support the use/application of Disapplication Exemption Derogation where required. Contribute and lead elements of the development and maintenance of policy and process to satisfy the DE&S corporate standards for Environmental Management.

  • Monitor the identification and analyses of environmental impacts and the evaluation of risk reduction measures ensuring that these are adequately documented and managed.

  • Leads on compliance activities in line with environmental policies to ensure the system or process is robust proportionate and working towards sound environmental performance.

  • Develops manages and maintains effective Environmental Management Systems assurance across a matrix managed organisation working alongside stakeholders and multiple Delivery Teams.

  • Manage the environmental acceptance criteria through the test verification and validation process.

Person specification
To be successful with your application youll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Lead Criterion - Demonstrate experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful environmental acquisition/support outcomes

  • Hold a Science Technology Engineering and/or Mathematics based qualification at RQF Level 4; and

  • Have wide ranging depth and breadth experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful environmental engineering-based outcome; and

  • As a minimum be professionally registered as either:

    • Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) or

    • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or

    • Registered Scientist (RSci)

Note: Alternatives to RQF listed above (which cover England Wales and Northern Ireland only) is the Scottish SCQF or international equivalent qualification backed up by a statement of comparability from UK ENIC.
