Position Summary: The RN GI Lab provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopic and gastrointestinal procedures within a collaborative procedural setting. This role conducts pre-procedure assessments assists with endoscopic procedures and closely monitors patients throughout sedation and recovery to support safety comfort and positive outcomes. Working closely with physicians anesthesia providers and technical staff the RN helps ensure efficient workflows accurate documentation and coordinated care delivery. As part of a supportive team-oriented GI Lab environment this position contributes to timely access to gastrointestinal services across the organization including participation in the call rotation. Key Responsibilities: Perform pre-procedure nursing assessments verify patient histories and ensure readiness for endoscopic and related GI procedures. Assist physicians during procedures by managing equipment supporting patient positioning and monitoring sedation and physiologic responses. Provide post-procedure care including recovery monitoring patient education and discharge instructions that support safe healing and follow-up. Maintain accurate documentation of assessments procedural details interventions and patient progress within the electronic health record. Collaborate with providers anesthesia and technical staff to ensure equipment readiness troubleshoot basic equipment concerns and maintain a safe procedural environment. Participate in the GI Lab call rotation and respond to emergent or urgent procedural needs as assigned.
Licenses and Certifications Required Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN licensure Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with certification every two (2) years preferred must be obtained within 1 year of hire Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) with certification every two (2) years preferred must be obtained within 1 year of hire with the exception of casual status staff Educational Requirements RN program as evidenced by licensure Experience Requirements Minimum one year Nursing Experience preferred IV Competency Previous Endoscopy Experience preferred Previous Ambulatory Care Experience preferred Previous experience monitoring Moderate Sedation patients preferred Special Skills or Training Requirements Computer Experience required Previous Experience working with and trouble shooting medical equipment preferred Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and airway management preferred Physical Requirements: The RN GI Lab frequently stands for extended periods during procedures walks between pre-op procedure and recovery areas and assists with patient transfers and positioning. The role requires bending reaching and handling endoscopy equipment and supply carts which may involve lifting light to moderate loads. Adequate vision hearing and manual dexterity are essential for monitoring patient status managing instruments and safely administering care in a procedure-based environment. Environmental Requirements: This position works in a procedural and recovery environment with routine exposure to bodily fluids endoscopic equipment cleaning agents and patients receiving moderate sedation. Work may involve fast-paced conditions urgent procedural needs and strict adherence to infection-control standards and PPE requirements. The RN may encounter fluctuating patient volumes and must maintain focus and professionalism while assisting in a multidisciplinary technologically intensive setting.
