Job Summary

Primary Purpose

Oversee the main floor of the campus store including the registers food services convenience items apparel supplies and store displays. Operates cash register counts cash and places orders for areas of responsibility. Handles customer service duties. Oversees the floor cashiering merchandising stocking and restocking items assisting customers training student employees and other special projects. Receives merchandise food and books. Processes online orders. Creates orders for staff and faculty. Ensures invoices are entered correctly. Performs a variety of tasks assigned by the Campus Store Manager.

This position is only open to internal applicants (currently employed Classified employees).

Description of Essential Functions

Campus Store Floor Oversight and Cashiering (approx. 60% of Time)

  1. Act as main cashier ensuring customers purchases are rung through the register in a timely manner while upholding excellent customer service. Work with little supervision problem-solve and make immediate decisions concerning the services provided at the Campus store. Reconciling the cash drawers balancing the daily receipts and prepare daily deposits. Ensure all FERPA-protected student and financial information is safeguarded against unauthorized access in all forms. Train student workers in daily operations of the campus store.
  2. Responsible for daily sales operations which includes keeping the shelves well stocked and a well maintained merchandised sales floor for all products and cleanliness of all areas of the campus store.
  3. Plan organize and schedule promotions. Assist in the development and distribution of marketing materials social postings and electronic communication.
  4. Keep the website modern accurate and easy to use with a consistent look and reliable functionality.
  5. Coordinate online ordering by responding to inquiries processing shipping orders and providing in-store support for the online site.
  6. Assist manager in ordering/receiving textbooks and maintaining appropriate quantities including end-of-term buy-back and year-end physical inventory.

Supply and Inventory Coordination (approx. 30% of Time)

  1. Manage inventory levels to meet customer demand while maximizing profitability through competitive pricing trend awareness accurate inventory control and benchmarking against peer campus stores. Maintain a diverse vendor base and cultivate long-term supplier partnerships.
  2. Receive and reconcile merchandise by verifying shipments reporting damages or discrepancies securing credits or replacements and accurately processing items into inventory based on financial performance metrics. Barcode shelve and process returns as needed.
  3. Coordinate purchasing and payment processes by managing requisitions purchase orders invoices and credit memos. Verify charges resolve discrepancies track outstanding credits and review vendor statements for accuracy.
  4. Collaborate with faculty to obtain course supply lists and ensure appropriate stock levels based on historical usage and anticipated student needs (e.g. art and lab supplies).

Department Support (approx. 10% of Time)

  1. Cover mailroom and print shop to assist when needed.
  2. Act as main point of contact in the absence of manager.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate Degree in sales marketing or relevant field of study.


Three (3) years of retail customer service inventory and bookkeeping experience.


May substitute education with an additional five (5) years of experience in a retail environment.

Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve complaints/issues defuse anger and gain cooperation that may include but are not limited to loans billing statements collection issues and agency authorizations.
  • Ability to perform data entry in the college-wide Student Information System word processing and spreadsheet applications. Exhibit a high level of computer literacy sufficient to use software such as word processing spreadsheets and databases to produce correspondence documents and reports. Sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate office computer fax ten-key and calculator.
  • Requires the ability to perform all of the duties of the position effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision. Ability to work with time deadlines and a high level of accuracy using independent judgment.
  • Familiarity with basic web page construction and browser use.
  • Ability and experience in collecting and processing moneys in a trustworthy manner possessing strong mathematical skills including addition subtraction multiplication and division necessary to verify and manage campus store programs and maintain proper margins.
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting skills including but not limited to requisitions purchase orders packing lists and invoices.
  • Knowledge of development and implementation of marketing strategies and goals with the ability to merchandise a wide array of product in an attractive clean uncluttered and creative fashion.
  • Ability to make appropriate buying decisions sustaining inventory based on financial purchasing principles including markdowns sales goals forecasting gross margins etc.

  • Campus store retail experience.
  • Experience in an educational setting.
  • Webpage development experience.
