About the Position
We are looking for a Construction Inspector to play a handson role in delivering vital transportation infrastructure supporting transit and rail facilities. This position is ideal for a professional who thrives in an active field environment and brings experience with facility repairs system upgrades maintenance work rehabilitation efforts and tenant improvement projects within complex transit settings.
As a Construction Inspector they will be at the forefront of project delivery ensuring that work performed in the field meets contractual requirements safety standards and quality expectations. The role blends onsite oversight with detailed documentation and coordination supporting inspection and documentation from task order review through final field acceptance. By working closely with contractors project managers and facility stakeholders the Inspector helps drive successful outcomes that keep critical transit assets safe functional and ready for public use.
This is a long-term full-time on-site position located in San Jose CA.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Examine contract documents in detail to understand technical commercial and compliance requirements.
- Perform onsite reviews to confirm construction and installation activities align with contractual obligations.
- Track record and communicate project status related to contract compliance and execution.
- Detect document and escalate deviations from contract requirements or approved standards.
- Collaborate with contractors and project leadership to address and close identified issues.
- Monitor adherence to applicable safety rules codes and regulatory requirements.
- Produce thorough inspection records findings and supporting documentation.
- Confirm that installed materials and equipment conform to approved submittals and contract specifications.
- Participate in project coordination meetings to address contract scope compliance and resolution items.
- Support the review and validation of contractor payment requests based on verified progress and contract terms.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management Civil Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years experience successfullyinspecting facilities repair maintenance rehabilitation and tenant improvement projects delivered through task-order or JOC-style contracts.
- Strong understanding of construction methods standards equipment quality and safety per State and Federal requirements.
- Demonstrated experience using various inspection tools such as; tablets/laptops measurement tools electrical testing and physical testing tools.
- Ability to interpret plans specifications special provisions and other contract documents.
- Valid California Class C drivers license.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g. Outlook Teams Word Excel PowerPoint etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Combination Designation through International Code Council (ICC) certification OSHA Safety CertificatesorCertified Facility Manager (CFM)credentials.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI Oracle Cloud Analytics or other dashboard KPI reporting software.
Compensation Details
Expected Salary: $117k-$137k/year ($56-$66/hour). Luster provides the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might offer for this position based on the successful candidates level of experience knowledge skills abilities education certifications licenses geographic location etc. Luster reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to any status protected by local state and/or federal law.
