Cornell University Library (CUL) seeks aHead Teaching and Learning to lead the integration of multiple literacies across the curriculum foster pedagogical innovation and oversee efforts to assess and enhance the impact of our educational initiatives. This dynamic leader will foster a collaborative culture communicate CULs mission and strategic goals and champion the One Library vision.
The Head will focus on strategic leadership and program development including instructional planning activities to ensure our established and emerging teaching and learning efforts align with university priorities. They will cultivate cross-CUL and campus collaborations and advance assessment of information literacy instruction and undergraduate learning outcomes. The Head will be responsible for helping establish the new Teaching and Learning department and for managing its personnel and initiatives. This position will champion the development of librarians and staff related to instructional and curricular design assessment and pedagogy through programming and activities.
Librarians at Cornell University hold academic appointments as Research Teaching and Extension faculty and must meet Cornell University Library requirements for promotion and reappointment.
Candidate Profile:
A masters degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
A minimum of five years of work experience with increasing responsibility focused on teaching and learning within academic libraries or higher education.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage within a complex organization to achieve a vision and meet goals.
Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to developing teaching and learning partnerships with university collaborators and communities.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum development assessment practices and/or pedagogical theory.
Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to universal design for learning and fostering a diverse learning community.
A record of scholarship professional involvement and service.
Additionally we would prefer any of the following:
Advanced degree in education instructional or curriculum design or related field.
Knowledge of traditional and emerging pedagogical methods and approaches and experience with developing staff in those areas.
Experience in instructional planning (i.e. curriculum maps syllabi assessments etc.) to design organize and align learning experiences with university priorities.
This hybrid position is located in Ithaca New York. The selected candidate will typically work on the Ithaca campus 4 days per week with the potential to enter a flexible work arrangement allowing remote work 1 day per week. The university reserves the right to modify suspend revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
The New York convenience of employer guidelines requires New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be if working temporarily outside New York State.
Benefits:Our comprehensive benefits package includes 22 vacation days 13 paid holidays health insurance life insurance university retirement contributions childcare and adoption assistance and child tuition reimbursement. Funding is available to support professional training and research. We anticipate hiring at the academic rank of Associate Librarian or Librarian with a salary range of $78000-$110000. The salary and rank will be commensurate with the knowledge skills and experience for this role.
