Job Summary

Needham Public Schools is an inclusive dynamic and multicultural community seeking an energetic skilled and warmMIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERto join our team atHigh RockMiddle School. To enhance our goals of supporting every child Needham Public Schools seeks candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences. This is an immediate vacancy through the end of the school year.

The responsibilities include planning teaching and assessing four sections of Social Studies as well as facilitating a daily will work collaboratively with members of theSocial Studies Department to follow the curriculum and with members of theinterdiscipilnary cluster team to support student learning and growth. This team includes special education teachers guidance counselors and related service providers.

Under the general supervision of theSocial StudiesDepartment Chair this teacher will be responsible for advancing students critical reading thinking writing speaking & listening skills. As a Needham educator this teacher will work collaboratively to integrate the attributes skills and knowledge made explicit in the Portrait of a Needham Graduate emphasizing the preparation of students to become socially and culturally responsive contributors.

Candidates should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills have experience working with and/or teachingmiddleschool students and understand the diverse needs of students at this age. Additionally candidates who have a collaborative work ethic training/experience in the use of instructional technology a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and the potential to contribute to student life beyond the classroom are strongly encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives and theMassachusetts Framework for History and Social Science
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students needs including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the Needham Public Schools.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars workshops or professional meetings or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping grading and reporting for all student activities achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the schools standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with colleagues to evaluate and assess curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or Designee

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Holds a Massachusetts Teaching License in Social Studies (5-8)
  • Holds an SEI endorsement dual certification in ESL or qualifies for such certification

Compensation:

Compensation for substitutes is based on the duration of the coverage:$22.40/hr -$43.23/hr
