Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting clients with pet resources and access to veterinary care seeking out new partnerships while fostering existing partner relationships assisting in the Pueblo Wellness Clinic and coordinating events and clinics on the east side of Pueblo. This position requires fluency in both Spanish and English.

  • Provides accurate information and friendly professional service to the public.
  • Discusses program options and aids in decision-making based on client resources
  • Explains medical conditions prognosis risks and aftercare for various medical conditions and procedures. Medical documentation client communication and education regarding surgical procedures and other medical conditions.
  • Helps to identify measures/metrics and tracks statistics to support program growth.
  • Manages PetSmart grant events including vaccines clinics spay and neuter clinics and pet supplies distribution.
  • Helps maintain event budget including revenue sources and expenses.
  • Assists in grant reporting and attends quarterly meetings with PetSmart Charities.
  • Provides input for the creation of a comprehensive event and communication plan. Works closely with key staff members to promote and execute events.
  • Procures and/or orders maintains inventories and tracks HSPPRs grant supplies and equipment for events. Manages and organizes the storage unit.
  • Answers phone calls and returns messages regarding HSPPR services and program capacity.
  • Assists with treatment and care of wellness patients in conjunction with the attending veterinarian to promote efficiency and excellence in patient care.
  • Oversees Mobile Clinic scheduling in the east side of Pueblo data entry and intake and discharge procedures for all public surgeries and vaccination/wellness appointments through the Chameleon and Acuity software programs.
  • Maintains medical/surgical treatment records and reports in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with HSPPR procedures updates records in the shelter database.
  • Assists the veterinarian with patient exams by providing proper animal restraint obtaining a medical history from records performing tasks and treatments as directed and filling medications.
  • Handles client complaints and follows through with appropriate steps to resolve concerns and complications elevating any concerning issues to the manager.
  • Trains and works with volunteers to support the program and other administrative duties.
  • Experience and medical knowledge foundation to appropriately direct questions triage inquiries and to provide accurate information to the public.
  • Provide compassionate care and services for customers in various emotional states

  • Appropriately documents observed animal behaviors utilizing objective language as required in relevant procedures and/or policies.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly sits at computer station often in a shared office environment.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 or more pounds of moving weight and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 or more pounds of moving weight.
  • May be occasionally required to climb or balance stoop kneel crouch crawl and smell.
  • Regularly required to sit reach with hands and arms talk hear and is frequently required to stand and walk. May be expected to be on their feet for extended periods of time.
  • Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Regularly exposed to noise and potential exposure to hazardous weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to cleaning supplies and/or other substances containing toxic or caustic chemicals.

Schedule Requirements

  • Regular Schedule may include weekend and holiday shifts
  • Four 10-hour shifts
  • Fully on-site

Education/Experience Necessary

  • Ability to effectively read write interpret communicate perform basic problem solving and perform basic math as commonly expected from completion of a High School Diploma or Equivalent Education.
  • Prior animal handling experience preferred.
  • One year of customer service experience preferably in a full-service veterinary hospital or animal shelter or equivalent related experience.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask in a high paced environment are required.
  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
