This is aDepartment Promotional recruitment and is open only to qualifying employees of the Kern County Fire Department.
Examination:
Appraisal (Weight 100%):Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicants training education experience interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any combination of the following: Investigation oral exam and rating of the application.
Should an oral exam be necessary the oral exam will be weighted 100%.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled dates/times/locations without exception.
Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards:
Five (5) years of experience as a Fire Captain in the Kern County Classification System three (3) of which as an investigator in the Kern County Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit and current California Fire Marshal (CFM) Fire Investigator 1.
Possession of a valid California Class C Drivers License.
Completion of California Commission of Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) PC 832 Arrest and Firearms Course POST Background Investigation and POST Internal Affairs Investigation Course.

Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This is a Department Promotional Examination and is open to eligible employees of Kern County Fire Department who have permanent status in the classified service and received an overall standard or better in their last employee performance report.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which an immediate appointment will be made at the Kern County Fire Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
