The Paraprofessional provides direct individualized support to a high school student with specialized academic behavioral or physical needs. This role assists the student in accessing the curriculum staying engaged during classroom activities and meeting IEP related goals. The paraprofessional collaborates with teachers special education staff and related service providers to support a safe inclusive and productive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a high school student throughout the school day.
- Assist the student with academic tasks organization task completion and classroom participation.
- Implement accommodations modifications and behavior plans as directed by the IEP team.
- Support the student with transitions between classes lunch specials or community based instruction.
Behavioral & Social Support
- Follow behavior intervention strategies designed by teachers or specialists (e.g. BCBA school psychologist).
- Model and encourage positive social interactions with peers.
- Assist with deescalation and crisis prevention strategies when needed.
Classroom & Instructional Support
- Reinforce teacher led instruction and provide small group or 1:1 academic prompting.
- Help prepare learning materials organize student work and maintain instructional areas.
- Track student progress and collect data as instructed by the teaching team.
Safety & Personal Care (if required)
- Ensure student safety in all school environments.
- Provide mobility or physical assistance when needed.
- Support the student with daily living skills as identified in the IEP.
Collaboration & Communication
- Maintain ongoing communication with teachers case managers and related service providers.
- Participate in meetings or trainings as assigned.
- Maintain professionalism confidentiality and adherence to FERPA guidelines.
School hours are 730AM-2:10PM with early dismissal on Wed at 12:10PM
