Job Summary

The Traffic Control Technician is responsible for safely directing and controlling traffic around construction sites roadwork zones and special projects. This role ensures the safety of workers pedestrians and motorists by setting up maintaining and removing traffic control devices in accordance with local state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up maintain and remove traffic control devices including cones barrels barricades signs and arrow boards
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic using hand signals signs and flagging equipment
  • Ensure compliance with MUTCD OSHA and company safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with crew members supervisors and the public
  • Monitor traffic flow and adjust control methods as needed for safety and efficiency
  • Conduct routine inspections of traffic control equipment to ensure proper placement and condition
  • Respond quickly to changing site conditions emergencies or traffic incidents
  • Maintain a clean and safe work zone at all times
  • Complete required documentation reports and time sheets accurately

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
  • Traffic Control / Flagger Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Knowledge of traffic control plans and safety procedures
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience in traffic control construction or roadwork
  • Familiarity with MUTCD standards
  • Experience working on DOT or municipal projects

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged standing and walking
  • Lifting carrying and placing traffic control devices
  • Exposure to noise moving traffic and outdoor environments

Work Schedule

  • May include early mornings nights weekends and overtime depending on project needs
