Overview
The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse functions as a professional nurse consultant/resource/educator for inpatient and outpatient referrals who present with ostomies ostomy-related issues acute or chronic wounds with varied etiologies skin rashes and diaper rash (perineal/perianal dermatitis). The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse is responsible and accountable for assessing planning implementing and evaluating the care related to the above conditions in the inpatient and outpatient settings. The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse utilizes the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide comprehensive age appropriate nursing care for assigned patients. Assists with the department supervision of nonprofessional personnel as necessary.

Responsibilities
- Provide clinical consultation and/or direct patient care for patients with wound ostomy or continence-related issues: Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a comprehensive age-appropriate plan of care for the patient/family which promotes optimal patient outcomes in regards to wound ostomy or continence care.
- Provides follow-up for patients with wound ostomy or continence-related issues through inpatient/outpatient visits and/or phone consultations. Collaborates with ancillary staff and initiates additional referrals for medical/surgical assistance as needed: Promotes safe efficient family-centered care.
- Provides appropriate education to patient caregiver and staff regarding wound ostomy or continence-related issues: Meets the educational needs of the patient and family utilizing appropriate principles of teaching/learning.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and attends educational programs unit meetings or other assigned meetings as indicated.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree and at least 1-2 years experience experience as an RN required 3-5 years highly preferred
- One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
- One of the following: Licensed RN - MO Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
- Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
- Current board certification as a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) Preferred

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $34.43/hr but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.
Remote Work/Work from Home
This position is not eligible to work remotely which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Childrens Mercy locations and may not work from home.
