Description of Work
The Transportation Worker III performs semi-skilled and skilled roadway and highway maintenance work and may train on and operate equipment associated with higher-level positions. This position is subject to emergency call-back and scheduled night work during adverse weather conditions or other extreme circumstances.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Additional Expectations:
Safety-toed shoes required. Skill in the safe use & care of assigned equipment hand & power tools & perform manual maintenance duties & other duties as directed by supervisor. Must have ability to act upon both verbal & written communication to traverse steep & uneven terrain to lift 50 lbs. & to work in extreme temperature conditions.
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Drivers License on the date of hire OR the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substance and alcohol testing.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Minimum Education and Experience
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. High school or General Educational Development diploma and five years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
