About Us

The NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is the state government agency created to conserve and sustain the states fish and wildlife resources through research scientific management wise use and public input. The NCWRC is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of North Carolinas fishing hunting trapping and boating laws. The agency has an operational budget of approximately $100 million and employs approximately 700 full-time staff and 100 seasonal temporary staff across the state including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians wildlife law enforcement officers wildlife educators communication specialists and customer service information technology and administrative professionals. The NCWRC Mission is to conserve North Carolinas wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters anglers boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation.

Description of Work

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for a Wildlife Conservation Engagement Coordinator (Conservation Program Coordinator II) for our Wildlife Education Division.

The Wildlife Education Division is responsible for raising public awareness about the agency its mission and its programs. The Division aims to engage and influence individuals through education and various opportunities encouraging them to actively participate in the conservation of the states wildlife resources. The Division develops and delivers education programs focused on hunting fishing and shooting sports along with other conservation outreach initiatives. With educators located throughout the state a dedicated fishing education center and several shooting ranges Division staff
actively engage the public by providing outdoor skills training and educational programs that promote the conservation of North Carolinas wildlife and habitats. Additionally the Division implements program planning and evaluation to ensure ongoing participation in conservation and wildlife-related recreational activities aligned with the agencys mission and purpose.

The primary purpose of the Wildlife Conservation Engagement Coordinator is to implement NCWRC outreach education and skill-based programs with an emphasis on wildlife-associated recreation and wildlife conservation statewide. Working under the direction of the Development and Evaluation Supervisor and in coordination with NCWRC staff partners and volunteers this position supports the goals of the Wildlife Education Strategic Plan the agencys R3 and relevancy efforts. Tasks will include but not be limited to the following:

Expand and enhance wildlife conservation activities and wildlife-associated recreation opportunities across the state at partner facilities and NCWRC-managed lands.
Develop and maintain educational curriculum lesson plans and outreach materials that support public engagement with wildlife and nature.
Coordinate and evaluate volunteer involvement in wildlife conservation and recreation programs ensuring accurate documentation and recognition.
Build and sustain partnerships with agencies organizations and community groups to broaden program reach and impact.
Collect analyze and report program participation and evaluation data to measure effectiveness and guide future planning.
The position involves program planning and development in collaboration with agency staff and external partners often working toward shared goals in conservation addition to designing and delivering classes this role represents NCWRC at national and regional meetings conferences and working groups.

This position is home-based. Applicants must reside within 90 miles of NCWRC Headquarters in Raleigh NC (Wake County). This is a MondayFriday position working 40 hours per week with occasional evening or weekend commitments. The position carries statewide responsibilities and requires monthly travel with occasional travel outside North Carolina.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Strong communication and media skills including writing editing and disseminating information through various formats such as articles scripts exhibits and audio-visual presentations.

  • Extensive knowledge of wildlife and environmental education including North Carolina species habitats wildlife management and natural sciences.

  • Skilled in educational program development including instructional formats and large-scale public education and outreach initiatives.

  • Proficient in administrative organizational and promotional techniques with the ability to manage projects and market educational content effectively.

  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with volunteers government officials organizations and the general public.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in wildlife management fisheries management parks and recreation public administration or business administration from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience related to the area of assignment;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
