Job Summary

  • Graduation from an approved institute or college in an audio-visual multi-media or related program
  • One (1) year of related experience in audio-visual or media production

Assets:

  • Experience working within a theatre setting
  • Experience providing technical support for large-scale public events including both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Previous experience in a large facility or museum setting
  • Ability to obtain or current certification in fall arrest and lift training

Skills required for success:

  • An exceptionally strong understanding of sound lighting video and associated equipment
  • Strong interpersonal and technical skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with collaborators
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to exercise initiative and work independently to solve complex problems.
  • Adaptability to pivot in real-time to manage changing client requests while honoring capacity and budgets

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position is designated as Safety Sensitive and requires adherence to related protocols
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week which may include shift work overnight shifts or on-call requirements
  • Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel-toe boots gloves goggles sunscreen and coveralls
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position

Work Environment:

  • Due to the nature of this work this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
  • Shift work requirements
  • Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time
  • The work occurs in both indoor and outdoor settings across a large facility
  • Physical demands include frequent standing walking and climbing ladders or stairs
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally
  • Potential exposure to environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures dust and common allergens (hay straw pollen)
  • Frequent use of safety footwear and other personal protective equipment as required

Fort Edmonton Park features multiple venues with significant audio-visual and multimedia systems that support the delivery of our unique experiences. We are looking for a technical expert to join the Arts Heritage and Nature Experiences section to ensure these systems operate flawlessly for our community.

In this role you will perform technical work in the set-up operation maintenance and minor repair of a wide variety of audio-visual equipment and media systems. You will support the Capitol Theatre and various park venues by managing lighting sound staging and special technical needs for performances and events. You will troubleshoot equipment and software issues in real-time to ensure the appropriate delivery of programs and excellence in customer service. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who can manage inventory and client requests while working in a dynamic large-scale facility.

What will you do

  • Maintain the AV inventory by following established maintenance schedules to ensure minimal impact on operational delivery
  • Set up maintain and operate lighting and sound equipment for events and performances throughout the park and at the Capitol Theatre
  • Provide technical support to guest designers visiting productions and rental clients orienting them to facility safety and technical characteristics
  • Monitor the condition of equipment including rigging and coordinate with supervisors to establish repair and replacement cycles
  • Troubleshoot software and equipment issues independently to ensure programs are delivered as required
  • Attend rehearsals and production meetings to coordinate technical requirements for upcoming events
  • Ensure all work is performed in adherence to safety policies processes and standards
