Position Title: Natural Resource and Facilities Individual Placement
Position Summary:
The Mount Rainier National Park National Park is recruiting one Natural Resource and Facilities Individual Placement beginning June 2026 through October 2026. The member will be focused on correcting trail deficiencies on Longmire and Paradise area trails and protecting natural and cultural resources at Paradise. Through that process the member will be integrated into the trails program and will learn about maintenance techniques on local trails and challenges in maintaining visitor access. The member will correct tread issues facilitate the restoration of trail clear vegetation from the trail corridor replace culverts install drain bars repair retaining walls and add tread material where necessary. This work will occur in exposed wilderness settings with rough terrain including some at high elevation (over 6000 feet). Work involves physical labor including lifting and carrying and frequent use of hand tools. General training will be provided including use of necessary tools and equipment and standards for trail construction at Mount Rainier National Park.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Member duties will include:
- Trail Maintenance (80%)
- Management of youth corps and volunteer crews (20%)
Required Qualifications:
- Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
- S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
- Must pass a background/driver check
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
Desired Qualifications:
- Drivers License
- Personal transportation
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to work outside in remote settings and inclement weather
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to use hand and/or power tools
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Strong organizational skills
Duty Location:
The member will report daily to the Mount Rainier National Park (th Ave Ashford WA 98022) The member must arrange their own transportation to and from the office.
Terms of Employment:
The Individual Placement will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours) starting June 2026 through October 2026. The member must complete a minimum of 640 service hours by the end of their term.
Program Benefits:
$9600 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis. The member will also have access to a $500 reimbursement fund for relevant gear purchases.
The living allowance is taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
