POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mechatronics CTE Teacher provides students with a rigorous hands-on educational experience in the principles and applications of mechatronics automation robotics and related fields. The teacher designs learning activities that integrate mechanical electrical and computer systems while fostering problem-solving teamwork and career readiness aligned with industry standards and North Carolina CTE curriculum frameworks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid North Carolina teaching license in Mechatronics Engineering Technology (Program Area 7400) Technology Education (740) or ability to obtain a CTE teaching license through direct or lateral entry.
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechatronics Engineering Industrial Technology or a closely related field.
- Minimum of two years of industry experience in automation robotics manufacturing or related technical field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to use industry-standard software hardware and tools.
- Excellent communication organization and interpersonal skills.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g. Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification FANUC Robotics Certification NC3 NIMS) preferred.
- Experience with PLC programming CAD software and electrical troubleshooting.
- Previous teaching or training experience in a technical or educational setting is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan prepare and deliver engaging instruction aligned with the North Carolina CTE Mechatronics curriculum and industry standards (such as NIMS MSSC and OSHA).
- Teach concepts in mechanical design electrical systems programmable logic controllers (PLCs) robotics sensors pneumatics hydraulics and automation technologies.
- Manage and maintain mechatronics lab equipment ensuring a safe and effective learning environment that mirrors industry practices.
- Integrate academic and technical competencies through project-based learning simulations and work-based learning opportunities.
- Develop students employability and leadership skills through participation in career and technical student organizations (CTSOs) such as SkillsUSA.
- Collaborate with local industry partners and community colleges to create pathways for student internships apprenticeships and postsecondary education.
- Monitor student progress maintain accurate records and communicate regularly with parents administrators and stakeholders.
- Participate in professional development and stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal or CTE director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers copiers typewriters calculators pencils scissors and equipment for children with special needs etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work. Must be able to communicate effectively.
