Job Description:

As a Senior Engineer in the Hardware Tools team you will become an expert in Microchips microcontrollers and toolchains for ARM PIC and AVR cores. You will be involved in every aspect of design and release of development boards and debugging tools for Microchips new microcontrollers; specification hardware design (PCB) verification manufacturing tests documentation integration with software ecosystems to make it as easy as possible for Microchips customers to use our microcontroller products.

In your role you will:

  • Collaborate with the worldwide Microchip team.

  • Develop hardware that demonstrates Microchip products functionality performance competitive advantage and ease of use.

  • Design hardware for manufacturing (schematics and layout) with Altium Designer and/or Siemens Xpedition.

  • Verify hardware functionality through embedded software testing and lab-based measurements.

  • Develop automated test procedures and test equipment for turnkey manufacturing using both embedded and PC-based software.

  • Industrialize products manage revisions and collaborate with manufacturing through product-lifecycle systems working closely with the manufacturing team.

  • Work with version control systems like git and Agile tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

  • Write documentation for development boards; both internal and external (User Guides).

  • Build deep expertise in Microchip products and associated peripherals to support their effective use in customer applications.

  • Collaborate with software engineers to deliver complete solutions encompassing hardware firmware and software leveraging open standards and ecosystems.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronics Cybernetics or related field.
  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken.

Experience

  • 6 years of relevant industry experience in hardware design with emphasis on schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Proven track record of designing multi-layer boards.

Core Technical Requirements and Skills

  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g. Altium Designer Siemens Xpedition).
  • Design expertise in high-speed signal integrity design (e.g. USB); power distribution network design and decoupling strategies; EMI/EMC best practices and compliance.
  • Understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes including DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (IPC ISO UL CE RoHS Reach) and experience with regulatory testing and certification.
  • Familiarity with component selection BOM management and product lifecycle considerations.
  • Lab experience ability to debug hardware issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Experience in both embedded C programming and Python programming.
  • Teamwork mentoring and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Project management experience a plus.
