THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for a permanent full-time opportunity in the capacity of Early Childhood Educator .

Location: Parkinson Centennial Public School

Note: School location/geographical area cannot be guaranteed in perpetuity and are subject to change based on student and system needs

FTE and Hours: 1.0 FTE; 32.5 hours per week

Hourly Rate of Pay : $30.92 - $36.74 per hour plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the ESA; wage rate effective September 1 2025

College/Association Fees:

Reimbursement for full cost of professional fees as required by the Board

Start Date: February 2 2026

10-month position (yearly from September June following the school year calendar); permanent; full-time; Educational Student Support Personnel (ESSP) & Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECE) Union

Reporting to the Principal the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) will be part of the Early Learning this role the ECE will collaborate with the classroom teacher to implement a full-day early learning program within a classroom setting which will enhance childrens cognitive physical social and emotional development. The ECE will share responsibilities with other educators for instruction assessment and supervision as well as communication with families and school teams. The ECE will also establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other community services providers working with children. The ECE may be required to provide supervision and age-appropriate (learning) programming for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with the teacher and staff of school to deliver the Early Learning Program
  • Collaborating with the teacher in planning developing and implementing daily activities that support and promote the development of children in their intellectual emotional and physical development
  • Assisting children in washroom routines dressing and lunchtime activities
  • Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with other community services providers working with children
  • Promoting parental involvement through regular communication
  • Accompanying the students on field trips
  • Providing supervision and age-appropriate programming for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required which may include:
  • Providing direction to assistant if present
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of the children
  • Overseeing and arranging nutritious snacks for the children attending the program
  • Observing monitoring and assessing the development of the pupils and taking appropriate action as required
  • Participating in staff meetings and professional learning activities as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications:

  • 2 year College Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Registration and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is required
  • Minimum 6 months of recent experience working with 4 or 5 year olds within a registered childcare setting early learning centre or educational setting
  • Knowledge of and experience in early learning and childcare programs
  • Knowledge of the early acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full-day early learning program
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive courteous manner with children parents staff and general public
  • Understanding a commitment to confidentiality
  • Basic computer and technological skills
  • Ability to speak French is a definite asset
  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools.
