Standardized Patient Educator:

Managing

  • Directly supervise course technician administrative support amuse casual resources required for the Satoko Shibata Clinical nursing laboratories operations within the ISON.

  • Organize division of programs (work load between Specilized Trainer and Educator)

  • Hire standardized patient Helpers and remote learning assistant students to ensure the successful operation of activities.

  • Provide adequate training.

  • Participate in Search and Selection process of the administrative staff.

  • Hire casual employees (SPs) to participate in simulation programs.

  • Supervise new employee in Standardized Patients and evaluates progress.

  • Works on determining the Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratory schedule and activities.

  • Develop and implement policies procedures and record keeping.

  • Create guidelines for online simulations for students & SPs protocols for in-person simulations online simulation survey.

  • Prepare accounting and budget reports of standardized patient hours.

  • Supervise and follow-up on the material ordering process to be send for final approval to the Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratory director.

  • Act as the local time keeper for all SPs and SP helpers (Workday)

  • Promote the implementation of association of standardized patients educators standards of best practice.

Plan simulation programs: scheduling and coordination

  • Meet with the Professors (Course Coordinators) and organize their simulation programs according to their needs and budget.

  • Suggest best practices according to their learning objectives and the constraints (sanitary measures online simulation specificities location of the simulation number of students etc.)

  • Develop a timeline tailored to the needs of each type of course. (HPA IBL NP program)

  • Track Standardized patients hours use according to the SP budget. Plan the schedules strategically in order to respect the union conditions while not exceeding the costs.

  • Consolidate and develop educational and organizations methodologies adapted to the different formats of the simulations. (in person simulations/ online simulations hybrid simulation with assessment by proxy etc.)

  • Perform Casting and booking SPs.

  • Responsible for the SP events including the delegation and organisation of work of the course technicians during those events.

Feedback

  • Manage all SPs and assure they are well prepared and comfortable in their role.

  • Attend certain simulations so that we can provide appropriate feedback can be gathered.

  • Address situations including conflicts keep written evidence and documentation.

  • Monitor SP Performance and standardization during dry runs and program advise them of adjustment needed if applicable.

  • Reinforce existing tools to allow for effective feedback from SPs.

  • Debriefing training program for actors specific to ISON needs (e.g. inspired by strength-based learning)

Content development

  • Script writing and revision in collaboration with faculty members.

  • Adapt the content of the scenarios according to the format of the simulation

  • Adapt the scenarios to create the required perception of realism.

  • When developing programs with faculty advise on scenario development.

  • Adapt the language add acting instructions and details of the script

  • Translate intentions in the description of the characters into precise and concrete acting directions or physical actions.

  • Act as the specialist concerning the information required for the SP

    • Establish the initial situation the initial emotional state the anticipated stages of the simulation and the expectations during the debriefing.

  • Research on new topics and exploration of new subjects

    • in situ simulations (e.g. opioid overdose)

    • Theatre forum on ethical questions.

    • Docu-fiction simulations.

    • Simulation and cultural mediation and safety

    • workshop simulations

    • Debriefing for actors

Hiring

  • Responsible for recruiting SPs screening selecting and training new hires.

  • Determine when a new wave of hiring SPs is needed and possible according to the needs of the scenarios and the staff movement

  • Establish selection criteria (age/ gender/ ethnicity) and casting requirements to better target recruitment.

  • Research and development of a knowledge transfer programme between our experienced and novice SPs

  • Outreach appropriate groups to recruit new SPs and promote SP program via different platforms (Theater companies; Wapikoni UDA social media agencies)

  • Liaise with theatre schools/ CEGEPs and other organizations and institutions hiring SPs
