Job Description
The Paraprofessional Student Internship is designed to provide support and assist the classroom teacher in providing instruction perform classroom clerical tasks and developing students academic daily living and behavioral skills. The intern will assist in creating a positive safe and productive learning environment. This position helps student interns learn more about becoming a licensed Educator Special Educators Speech Pathologist Occupational and/or Physical Therapist. This position is for typically two class periods every other day with an expectation of a commitment for the remainder of the semester. Site/school placement will be determined upon hire.

THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED AFTER A MINIMUM OF 5 WORKING DAYS.
Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
- Assist the teacher with instructional activities and classroom management reinforcing lesson plans.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as directed.
- Support students with special needs by following individualized plans.
- Help prepare and organize classroom materials and resources.
- Provide supervision of students during classroom activities transitions and other school settings as directed by the teacher.
- Encourage positive behavior and model respectful interactions.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow school policies and procedures.
- Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
- Implements (under the supervision of the teacher) curriculum behavioral programs IEP goals behavior intervention plans and classwide systems in accordance with lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students academic success through a defined course of study.
- Demonstrates the ability to record relevant information/data about learners.
- Monitors individual students classroom library community activities etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment under the direction of the teacher or paraeducator assigned to the group.
- Assist students accessing the community for school-related learning
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling copying etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.
- Carry out responsibilities in a manner consistent with all pertinent laws regulations policies and procedures.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities such as Speech Language Pathologists Adaptive PE other paraeducators etc.
- Other duties as assigned for the benefit of special education students.
Qualifications
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling squatting bending standing and sitting in student size chairs for extended periods of time.
- Participate with students in physical fitness activities including walking stretching and aerobic exercise.
- Sanitize and clean equipment (workboxes exercise equipment walkers wheelchairs etc)
- Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
- Participate supervise and support students including during inclement weather in situations such as to/from bus etc.
- Willing to participate in and utilize de-escalation techniques and MANDT training if needed.
- Regular attendance is critical.
- Must provide own transportation.
Experience/ Education
- 16 years of age minimum
- Current high school student of Weber School District
- Aspiring Educators/EDUC 1010 coursework in progress or completed and passed.
