Job Summary

Description

The Music Technician plays a vital role in the music culture of Discovery College supporting the teacher in the classroom music and school wide concerts and audio requirements and working with staff to help deliver the music curriculum and music ensembles.

Main Accountabilities

Teacher Support:

  • Assisting classroom teachers with day to day learning activities including working with students;
  • Keeping learning spaces neat and tidy;
  • Moving music equipment between classrooms and learning areas;
  • Setting up for ensembles;
  • Printing and photocopying teaching resources;
  • Maintaining music and ensemble libraries;
  • Recording student performances and saving this in a safe and accessible place.

Technical Support:

  • Setting up for performances conducting sound checks monitoring the equipment during performances and packing up the equipment afterwards;
  • Recording live concerts and saving and sharing audio files;
  • Audio engineer for school concerts assemblies musicals and other key events;
  • The movement of instruments and AV gear around the College;
  • Monitoring and maintaining all equipment in good working order including leads and instruments;
  • Troubleshooting to solve problems and issues as soon as possible;
  • Setting up the instruments mobile recording PA leads and mics and then packing up and storage.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the schools day to day purchasing procedures;
  • Assisting in sourcing liaising between teachers and vendors placing orders and follow up orders checking orders when they arrive;
  • Stock taking and maintaining inventories;
  • Coordinating the peripatetic music tutor programme with the Communications Department including student instrument hire;
  • Managing peripatetic music tutors and maintaining their spaces ready for lessons.

Other responsibilities:

  • Undertaking duties as the Head of Department or delegated representative may reasonably request;
  • To perform other duties and assume accountabilities as apparent or as delegated including mutually agreed upon objectives.

Head of Music > Head of Secondary

Minimum typical education
Relevant educational background in Sound Engineering and preferably Music.

Minimum typical experience
2 years relevant experience

  • Able to display strong initiative and self management skills;
  • Has commitment to whole school development;
  • Excellent organisational ITand interpersonal skills;
  • Creative and imaginative thinker problem solver flexible adaptable capable of considering different perspectives;
  • Able to contribute to a team and work independently;
  • Understands that the student/teacher relationship is one of mutual respect;
  • Excellent display and presentation skills;
  • Ability to communicate in English is essential. Cantonese would be an advantage;
  • Committed to professional development and willingness to undertake appropriate training as required;
  • Positive rapport with students;
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.
