About The Role:

  • Under supervision provide a high standard of clinical care to patients in the area of Medical Oncology to uphold quality service delivery whilst building on skills to become competent in the practice of Medical Oncology in accordance with RACP advanced training requirements.
  • Assess investigate diagnose treat and provide ongoing management of in and outpatients with oncological diseases and perform procedures and use specialty medical equipment and devices to provide high quality patient care.
  • Communicate patient-relevant information to patients and their families/carers and all staff involved in the patients care to ensure shared decision-making and timely information transfer. This includes establishing therapeutic relationships escalating issues when required and respecting confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in relation to patient care to ensure efficient and confidential communication of patient information and that patient records are effective for current and future use. This includes treatment plans correspondence entry into medical records referrals discharge summaries reports death certificates and any other documentation in relation to patient care and management.
  • Teach other clinical staff to ensure an optimal learning environment promote growth and development of others and to develop skills in teaching. Teaching includes assisting with or leading formal education sessions providing learning experiences on the job case presentations giving constructive feedback undertaking formal/informal assessments role modelling and mentoring.
  • Supervise other clinical staff to enable supervisees to develop the competence and knowledge required for responsible practice promote team building and a supportive environment enhance the performance of those being supervised and monitor their welfare. Supervision includes clinical supervision checking work is conducted to standards providing guidance contributing to professional development assisting to solve problems and clinical workload management.
  • Lead and contribute to research projects to contribute to scholarly knowledge that leads to better patient outcomes and to develop skills and understanding of the quality research including research methods ethics managing conflict of interest obtaining informed consent recruiting and supervising participants
  • and understanding scientific principles.

About You:

  • MBBS or equivalent currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Completion of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians written and clinical examinations and the requirements of PREP Basic Training or equivalent (completed or working towards).
  • Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills judgment and expertise.
  • Advanced ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to core values of hospital based medical practice: patient care teaching research and
  • quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement patient safety and risk management.

About The Mater:

In this role you will be based at the Mater hospital North Sydney.

  • One of Sydneys premier private hospitals.
  • Close by to train stations at North Sydney St Leonards and Crows Nest and buses on Pacific Highway.
