Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno Extension is seeking a dynamic community-focused Community Based Instructor 3 (CBI 3) to join our Douglas County team. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality educational programming that supports youth development through 4-H while also expanding into adult and community-based education in response to evolving local needs.

As Douglas Countys demographics shift and community requests increase in areas such as workforce development mental health education and other adult-focused programs this role offers an exciting opportunity to work across multiple program areas build strong community partnerships and make a meaningful impact across the lifespan.

This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about education enjoys working with diverse audiences and thrives in a role that blends youth programming community outreach and direct instruction.

What Youll Do

The Community Based Instructor 3 provides direct education outreach and program support across multiple Extension program areas with a primary focus on youth development and 4-H programming.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering 4-H youth development programs through clubs schools camps afterschool programs and special interest programs

  • Supporting and training volunteers in curriculum delivery program expectations and youth development best practices

  • Providing direct education to adults and community members in areas such as workforce readiness mental health education health and wellness and other identified community needs

  • Building and maintaining partnerships with schools agencies nonprofits and community organizations

  • Promoting and recruiting for Extension programs through outreach events and community engagement

  • Collecting and reporting program data (attendance evaluations outcomes) in alignment with university state and federal guidelines

  • Preparing instructional materials and coordinating program logistics including supplies room set-up and site coordination

  • Representing Extension in the community through meetings events and collaborative initiatives

  • Participating in professional development and supporting special projects and countywide initiatives as needed

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture horticulture community development health and nutrition human and family development and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

This position requires candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check.

A valid Class C drivers license or higher operators license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth programs (4-H afterschool camps mentoring etc.)

  • Experience delivering adult education workforce development or community-based programming

  • Experience providing instruction training or educational programming to youth and/or adults

  • Strong communication organization and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in community settings

  • Candidates with experience working with supervising and/or training volunteers are encouraged to apply.

  • Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

Variable work schedule with nights and weekends as necessary for program implementation travel etc. Regular in-county travel and occasional out-of-county travel.

Compensation Grade

Grade 27 (Entry Step 01 $22.35/hr)

In classified service salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment the candidates qualifications internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
