Regular job duties will include:

The position involves active participation in the issuance of written decisions and orders by proofreading drafts incorporating approved edits preparing opinion caption pages and coordinating with the Clerks Office to submit final dispositions to publishers.

You will finalize conference agendas and oversee case tracking for statistical reporting. This includes reviewing and placing cases on multiple weekly panel conference agendas publishing and circulating agendas to internal court users ensuring all case materials are available for conferences verifying the accuracy of post-conference dispositions updating case records monitoring case progression and ensuring compliance with the six-month rule.

In addition the position provides comprehensive administrative support to the assigned judge by assisting with supervision of chambers staff managing bi-monthly payroll submissions and judicial pay affidavits coordinating work assignments with law clerks and staff attorneys liaising with the Clerk of the Appellate Courts and Human Resources supporting annual law clerk transitions and handling travel arrangements and related reimbursement requests.


An ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Ability to establish priorities perform assignments independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • Substantial experience editing and proofreading professional documents.
  • Ability to monitor the work and deadlines of judicial law clerks.
  • Experience developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions following a minimum of explanation.
  • Ability to communicate complex information about policies and procedures.
  • Experience maintaining office files and/or records systems.
  • Ability to handle with courtesy and tact a wide variety of court system contacts in writing and in person.


The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

This position is in the partially exempt service; the incumbent serves at-will to the hiring authority.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.

AND

Three years of progressively responsible fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.



Substitution:

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

A bachelors degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required clerical work experience.

NOTE: Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred.
