About the program

The Journey to Social Inclusion (J2SI) is an innovative and evidenced-based case management service for people experiencing long-term homelessness in Central Highlands Victoria.

This program differs from other homelessness services as it provides the time needed for people to access their permanent homes and have an improved quality of life and increased community connection.

Your new role

As a Peer Settlement Support Worker you will work in collaboration with the J2SI Intensive Case Manager and will have life experience of resettling clients in a home and the community after they have experienced homelessness.

In this role you will work with clients in an outreach capacity and adopt an assertive engagement approach by drawing on lived experience to support work with clients to:

  • Provide connection to community
  • Establish a home
  • Build skills
  • Provide emotional support
  • Make the transition from homelessness to being housed
  • Return to work or study

Your skills and experience
  • Appropriate qualification relevant to the delivery of community services e.g. Social Work Psychology Occupational Therapy or equivalent. Candidates with Diploma qualifications and outstanding relevant experience may be considered.
  • Valid drivers licence to drive in Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management
  • Relevant experience working in the community service sector
  • Proven ability to restore relationships with people experiencing vulnerabilities and history of complexities in areas such as adult homelessness alcohol and other drugs mental health disability and family violence.
  • Ability to work effectively in an outreach capacity
  • Sound knowledge of various theoretical frameworks and strategies applicable to working with clients with complex needs.
