Office of the Vice-President Research

The Vice-President (Research) as a corporate university wide unit has the overall responsibility for leading and shaping UNBs strategic research direction and agenda. The Office of Research Services (ORS) under the VPR portfolio provides administrative leadership and support to develop and advance the research agenda. The Office of Vice-President (Research) (OVPR) is responsible for supporting and assisting the VPR in their mandate.

Full-time 3 year Term Fredericton On-Campus

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri 8:15 am - 4:30 pm 36.25 hours per week

Salary Range: $49410 - $61768 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Manager OVPR this position is responsible for coordinating and administering the programs that are currently overseen by the Manager (i.e. Research Ethics Postdoctoral Fellowships Program etc). This person will run the day-to-day functionality of these programs and involve the Manager when necessary.

  • Be the first point of contact to answer all questions and queries from UNB faculty members and graduate students regarding Research Ethics Board matters.
  • Accept all applications to the UNB REB process them and conduct a preliminary review of the application before issuing it to the REB Chair. Work closely with the Chair to ensure applications are processed correctly and promptly.
  • Escalate any issues to the Manager as appropriate.
  • Remain up to date with all UNB policies and or other policies pertaining to research ethics review in Canada (i.e. the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Research Involving Humans Health Canada Guidelines).
  • Maintain records of all current and past year applications.
  • Organize all REB meetings and serve as the Board Secretary.
  • Maintain the REB website information.
  • Liaise between the Chair and members of the UNB REB and the VP (Research).
  • Assist with preparation for audits or site visits by organizations such as the Tri-Councils Health Canada etc.
  • Assist with the preparation of all motions for UNBF and or UNBSJ Senates and Board of Governors.
  • Review and process all Postdoctoral Fellowship (PDF) applications received from UNB Faculties/Departments.
  • Be the first point of contact for information and guidance to all PDFs and their supervisors as necessary.
  • Receive review and execute all new PDF applications and requests for extensions and/or amendments to existing PDFs.
  • Communicate with Principal Investigators regarding matters surrounding PDF employment (i.e. salary duration of terms collective agreement).
  • Remain aware of processing times for work visas around the world. Work with the Manager to enforce required timelines for processing documentation.
  • Maintain up to date records on each PDF at the university and manage all PDF personnel files.
  • Liaise with the Office of People and Culture regarding matters involving PDFs (i.e. payroll parental leaves)
  • Formulate Letters of Offer Amended or Extended offers and disseminate information to any relevant departments (P & C PSAC Union Academic unit).
  • Remain up to date with UNB and National policies involving PDFs.
  • Process applications to other VPR Programs (i.e. Sabbatical & Non-Leave Research Grants Honorary Research Professorships etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Postsecondary Education in a relevant program such as Administration Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in an office setting performing comparable duties.

  • Ability to multitask and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience working within a university setting would be an asset.
